I was talking to a co-worker about this place, and they were giving me all kinds of warnings about how the Tenderloin is a really dangerous place. Is that true? I've never been. I don't imagine it is too bad, as folks here have gone to this restaurant and lived to tell the tale. I think this person was being overly dramatic.

I've lived a block over from little bird for about a year and heave never felt unsafe on Geary -- little bird's on a kinda busy block with other decent restaurants and bars. The block usually smells awful though, so prepare for that. I don't really know how dangerous the tenderloin really is -- anecdotally I've never had much of a concern, but have never bothered to look up crime stats. Little bird is pretty much on the northern border of the tenderloin anyway, if you come at it from the east, west or north your not even in the 'loin.

Yeah, she was making it sound like I was taking my life in my hands walking to the restaurant from the BART. But I kind of doubted that.
Ha, the 'loin, I love it.

Yeah, people get hysterical about the Tenderloin, but it's really not a big deal. There are definitely some sketchy people around, but I've never had any problems, even when I was staying at the old YMCA there all by myself.

Yeah, just walk down Geary from Powell BART. Civic Center BART looks closer, but it's uphill and there's like a two block radius of super sketch that I like to avoid. Other than that it's totally fine. A guy even tried to give me a toy duck last time I was there! Aw!

It looks like this place is just around the corner for the hotel I will be staying in when I am there next month, and I am very happy about having a close vegan breakfast every day. :)

I went here today with jordanpattern and nebraskalaska! I had the BLTA (a = avo), orange juice, and an almond milk latte, and I liked it! I want to go again!

Bad news, little bird is going to stop serving breakfast. I walked by it today and it looked like they were renovating it. I chatted with the manager or something and he said they were changing to a late night dinner place- would still have some vegetarian options, might reopen for breakfast on 6 months.

WHAT. WHAAAAAAT.
I was wondering why I had tried to get breakfast there and it kept being closed. I am so heartbroken! The vegan breakfast sammich was one of the best ways that I could motivate myself to get out of bed before noon on the weekend. Heartbroken!
Though latenight dinner is pretty rad.
Little Bird is a block and a half from my apartment. I love the area, so if anyone is worried about the 'loiny-ness, really, don't worry. I second the suggestion to walk from Powell instead of Civic Center, but Geary is really totally safe. Sometimes has human by-product on the sidewalk, but just watch where you step and it's all good.

Fack. I never ate there. I feel exactly like the kid in The Road, who never experienced life before the Apocalypse.
