Hello you sexy, sexy people...
The time has finally come to get my hair cut (I've been doing self maintenance for the last several months, but I finally need a professional to intervene). I was fanatically loyal to my lady back in Boston--she would do a killer cut for $45, using almost nothing but razors, and was never shy about going as short as I asked for. I'm looking for a new Cheryl... Can you guys recommend someone who isn't very expensive, does a razor cut, and understands that HAIR GROWS BACK and so won't make my hair inches longer than I actually want it?
I'm cruising Yelp, but I figured I'd check here too, as someone might know a vegan stylist, and I'd love to support him or her! Especially if when they inevitably dump product in my hair at the end of the cut, it would be vegan product.
Thanks!

I've gotten my last few hair cuts at a place called public- on Geary and jones. Guys opinion but it's been fine, not too expensive.

I've never been to public but I have heard good things about it from my lady friends. I think I'm gonna try it next time I need my hair cut. They give you beer!
Lately I've been going to the cinta aveda salon. It is super cheap because students cut your hair. It sounds risky but I've never had a bad hair cut there. The downside is that it can take forever... like 2 hours sometimes.

Yelp reviews of Public are also enthusiastic, and that is about a block from my apartment. AWESOME. I have made an appointment for later today (a place that does same day or next day appointments only? I love it!). Thanks, guys! I will let you know how it goes!

I also recommend Nicole at Sakura Studio in the Piedmont neighborhood of Oakland. She is vegan and can use all vegan products on you! Also, she is AWESOME.

It took 2 hours, was just about the exact opposite of what I asked for, and the stylist was obnoxious. Proceed with caution.

I go to my friend Paul at Orange salon on Divisadero. I think it's better if you make an appt cause people aren't always there, but there is also a girl who works there who I've seen do guys' cuts too. I don't know if it's just cheap because I know him, but he always does good work.

I went to Public and it was excellent! Super affordable (my hair is short, so only $29!!) and I'm really satisfied with the cut. Plus, the convenience. PLUS, they offer you beer (which I had to decline because I had so much grading still to do when I got home, but it's the principal of the thing!). So, I liked that.
I will definitely check out Nicole, as Piedmont is near my work.
I went to an Aveda school back in Boston and was so horribly disappointed. It was a really awful cut, and I had to leave after two and a half hours because it had taken up more than my share of lunch break. I was pretty let down, so now I avoid them, especially because I really don't have that kind of time these days.

I see you found a salon you like, but I bounced between Glamarama and Blade Runners, and was ALWAYS happy with my cuts and colors! There's a LOT of talent in those salons!
