I'm thinking for December 11 a restaurant, but maybe a dessert potluck on another day? I can host. I'm on the waaaaay north side, but I have room for people, and some chairs and such. And a really big table.

Ians the 11th? Also, I went Native Foods today with a friend who is going through a rough patch so I went up to the city to see him and OMFG best veg-chicken sandwich I've ever had. Dan got cheesecake and it was better than the cheesecake I ate as an omni.

Yes, to Ian's on the 11th. Excellent.
When would we like to do a potluck? A Friday night would be good for me. If no one else is better suited to host, I'll give the info on how to get to my place at the 11th meetup. That way, I will be able to set my mother's mind at rest that I'm not inviting strangers from the internet to my apartment.

PSA: The Lincoln Park Whole Foods now has Wayfare We Can't Say It's Cheese spreads.
The Hickory Cheddar totally reminds me of those tub cheeses I loved as a kid. This is dangerous information.
Let the noms commence!

I will possibly (probably) (with any luck) be moving to Chicago in January! I was accepted to Columbia College of Chicago for the spring semester, so if things work out financially, I'll be moving in January 2.
Tell me things to do and places to go! I've only been to Chicago once, for a show at the Aragon. I had great food at the Chicago Diner, but it's definitely too expensive for my art-student budget, and I don't know how far away it is from my school.

Welcome, xWhenIMetHer! I moved here in July, and I love it. I'll try to think of some art student friendly places and things, and send them to you.
I think I'm going to start a new Chicago Meet Up Thread, so we can separate the details of meet ups with general Chicago stuff. Sound good, ya'll?

Anyone staying in Chicago for Christmas? Kriss and I are wanting to have a get together (maybe an all day hang out). Anyone interested? We can have a huge dinner and listen to records. Any other ideas are welcome.
(avoiding being alone on Christmas...plus we don't want anyone else to be either!)

If anyone wants to come to my holiday party tomorrow night, PM me. I live in Ravenswood.
This is totally awkward, but feel free to come! I have no idea how many people will be there, I think we have 10 people coming so far? Supposedly? We invited like, 40.

My faves are Handlebar, Chicago Diner, Pick Me Up, Sultan's Market (best falafel ever!), and Bleeding Heart's cafe on Chicago. Bleeding Heart would be the best place for a large group, especially if you go at a slower time. The other places are all on the smaller side. Also, Bleeding Heart is open 24 hours on weekends, and have tons of omni food that my friends say is awesome.

thank you!! I am so excited about falafel. We've decided on trying out the vegan deep dish at Boiler Room so far. Exciting!

I would also add Urban Vegan to the list for Thai. Not great for large groups, though. Amitabul is hard to get to without a car but really delicious Korean.
A shake at the Chicago Diner is a must, and Pick Me Up has the best French Toast....PMU is also good for groups.
Have fun!

LazySmurf wrote: Where we would be a good place I could throw a bridal shower? Not vegan but vegan friendly, nice, can accommodate large groups, and cocktails. Hmm. I'd recommend Karyn's on Green but it's all vegan. Maybe Mana Food Bar (small plates and vegetarian). I'm sure there are many more omni places but I can't think of anything off the top of my head, sorry!

Have fun! Thank you!! I would love to try vegan Korean there, in particular, and drink the hell out of a cookie dough shake. Oh my god.

Last night was our anniversary, and we didn't really make any plans. We had decided on Native Foods, but as I was getting in the shower, Fred said to dress nicer because he had gotten last second reservations. He wouldn't tell me where we were going. I suspected Green Zebra, because he let me dillydally until 10 minutes before 8 and it's only a few blocks from our house. Then we hopped in a cab. Oh.
We got to Karyn's on Green, which I was super excited about, but some water main outside broke, and they had closed early. The manager was outside and gave us his card to go to Karyn's Cooked for comped drinks, so we jumped in another cab. I wish I would have read some reviews on here, because I was rather unimpressed. The vegan pizza was fine, but nothing special, Fred's polenta was better than my enchiladas, and the tiramisu cake was...strange. It tasted more like caramel and cinnamon than coffee. It wasn't bad, just not tiramisu.
