Check this Out! This guy Jay Shafer was a grocery store clerk for years, he didn't want to spend his life working to pay a mortgage on a huge wasteful house so he built himself an 89 square foot house that he can tow around. It ended up turning into a business and now you can buy the plans to a bunch of different houses ranging from 99 square feet to 889 square feet. They are awesome! My partner and I just found this site and it's exactly what we've been looking for (super super affordable too, like $29,000 - and green, compost toilet, etc.). Just wanted to share in case other PPKers have been looking for ways to live green off the grid/cheaply! http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/

My father-in-law's got an old abandoned dairy out the back of his property, but he can't build on it because of permits and a bunch of other bureaucratic red tape. He's hosting his office party tonight, which is the perfect setup for priming him with beer and engaging in a little Jedi mind trickery so he thinks it was his idea to outlay the cash and let me build one.

The smallest houses are living to the extreme. Some of the larger ones, there are actual vintage houses that small.
I love small living. Being a homebody, I do require a certain amount of space. 100 square feet won't do it.
This site really speaks to the issue that there is just not enough basic housing built in the U.S..
