 Post subject: Making your own chickpea flour

I'm really wanting a Vita-Mix. I was thinking I could use the excuse that I need it to make my own flours. But do you wash the chickpeas first before making flour? I think of all of the rinsing I do before I soak chickpeas for cooking, and I don't think I'd want to just grind up the dry chickpeas as they are when I purchase them.

I use a grain mill, but I just use the dry beans srraight from the bag. I never even considered washing them. I guess you could and maybe dry them in the oven?

I googled how to make chickpea flour and glanced through about 10 hits, not one mentioned rinsing the chickpeas first. I do find this odd since they always suggest rinsing them before cooking!

Rinsing, then drying in the oven sounds like a good idea to me...

this is funny because I've been thinking about the same thing myself. As I was throwing grains into my grain mill I was thinking how carefully I wash the grains when I make cereal! I'm almost out of chickpea flour and knew I was going to make my own with my mill and pondered this point! There's no other way, it's gotta be dry when you grind it.

I've never done it with chickpeas but I've made split pea flour with just split peas. No rinsing or anything, worked like a dream.

Well, if I do go for the Vita-Mix, I'll give the wash-oven dry chickpeas a test and let you know how it works out. Toasted chickpea flour anyone?
