Hi Square posters, I added sub-forums for NYC, Portland and SF. I added those because they make up about 50% of the traffic for the site, and I thought a whole forum would help those communities to plot, plan and party. I'd love to do this for other areas. I know that Australia and UK could use a forum and Philly has an active thread and it would be great to have a midwest area. For now I am going to stick with those 3 and see if it works out. If it does, I'm open for discussion of adding dedicated sub-forums for other areas. If it doesn't work, no love lost, I will let those areas back into the wild.
So in closing, I guess nothing affects other cities. I just don't want other people to feel left out! This is an experiment and hopefully will make the Square in general more productive and easier to navigate in the long run. Word?

I like it! It will be so much easier to find stuff and hopefully people will be able to find the info they need when they are coming to visit portland or NY!

On behalf of the Philly area crew, I would be really happy if we got a sub-forum. There are a lot of us! And it would be nice to have "hi I'm new here" and "I recommend this restaurant" and "let's have a meetup" threads instead of doing it all in one thread.

Is there a way to make the new area sub-fora not take up so much of the screen? As currently created, those of us who are not in NY/PDX/Bay Area have to scroll half way down to see our threads and the NY/PDS/Bay Area groups stay at the top of every successive page
Could you do what you have in other fora and create four headers/subfora:
* PDX * Bay Area * NYC * Other
That way you can click on "other" and go straight to the threads rather than having to scroll down to see all of them, and without having the other three subfora listed on the top of your screen taking up 1/3 of it. I think 4 subfora would be a good fix for that.
I understand that you're doing only 3 subfora and that makes sense, although NJ would also like their own as we do have large numbers of PPKers on here as well.

You have to scroll down?! That is outrageous! No but on the real, I don't want to make everything else "other" because then it's awkward. Instead, it's just the same old square but there are some subforums. No big whoop.

Late breaking: if you post in a local sub-fora in the Square it will not show up in a "View active topics" list. If you want to see what's new you will have to go directly to that forum. Reason being is to keep people from posting in there thinking it is a generic thread rather than a local-specific thread.

But isn't that going to lead to the same problems? Or am I the only loser clicking on New Posts?

I would like to see sub-fora for every city in the world. It's only fair.

So the subforum stuff will show up for "view new posts" but not for "view active topics," is that right?

I wish there was enough traffic here to warrant a thread for the Niagara Region or Southern Ontario/Buffalo.

Midwest forum, please? It covers enough cities to warrant a subforum (Chicago/Milwaukee/Omaha/St Louis/Des Moines and places in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio?), but not too big that a separate forum would be obscure. And major cities like Milwaukee and Chicago are close enough to each other/easily traveled between that I and I bet lots of other people would be looking at events going on in both cities. And maybe it'll encourage us to plan more meetups!
