I had written to Zacharys almost a year ago asking about vegan options and received an response saying I could bring my own vegan cheese, but the crust has dairy and egg in it and I was super bummed. Then today I opened my email to find this and am so excited! Now the East Bay can have vegan deep dish too!!! Below is the email:

"I am following up with your email in January to let you know we are now offering a vegan option. Our WHEAT stuffed and thin crusts are vegan and we offer Daiya mozz-style vegan cheese. Our website is not yet updated but it will be soon. We wanted to let you be one of the first to know.

Thank you for you feedback and recommendation. We appreciate it!

According to Vegansaurus, it's pretty dang good, too. I'm definitely going to give it a try at some point!

I e-mailed them YEARS ago, and they wrote me this morning with the same info. I think that's really great customer service, which totally makes me want to give them my business. It's really smart on their behalf to delve into the vegan niche!

Just a caveat, since this is implied in the Z email but not made explicit: the non-whole-wheat stuffed crust is NOT vegan. They use whey or something in there. But HELL YES for the whole wheat and Daiya!!

I am stoked. Work orders pizza from Z's for the whole company once a month and now I can join in!! yay!!

Good point. The updated online menu asks that you specify vegan pizza when ordering, so hopefully their staff will be trained that that means the wheat crust and Daiya.

STOKED. I had to go there once and eat a sad salad, now I can have unhealthy food too!

Been trying to order all evening. Phone is always busy. I give up. :(

I ordered the thin-crust version tonight. Not too bad, though I assume the stuffed crust would be better. No surprises, just Daiya goodness on pizza.

I got a stuffed one the other day, with spinach and onions. It was good, but for a 10" small pizza, veganized, plus a fountain Diet Coke, it was $30. That took me quite a bit by surprise, and you know what? It was so not worth $30. It was decently good, but at BEST it was $20 worth of good. At best.

I guess I should be relieved, though, that I won't be craving pizza from the East Bay.

$30? Whoa. I think when I order a large deep dish from Paxti's, it comes to about $35 with tip, and that will feed me for days.

Yeah, it's pretty tricky to get a large vegan pizza for under $30.00 out here- it's kinda nuts.

When my small town Texas dad was here visiting the big city for the first time we went to ZPizza and got a small pizza, a large pizza, two salads and two drinks for $45 which I thought was a pretty good deal, but he seemed to have some sticker shock. And then I was like, oh yeah you have only ever had pizza from Pizza Hut.

Pizza is sooo expensive here! I wish I didn't love it so much.

Anytime I see a "$5 for 500 medium pizzas!" ad from a major chain, I cry inside.

I got spoiled by $11 small vegan pizzas back in Boston. I couldn't believe it was so much for a small! I'm definitely going to keep with just making my own.

That's craziness. I paid $16 for the medium thin-crust, which was still pretty steep in my opinion.
