Okay, I booked at the Calabash Bistro because canuck in scotland is an awesome username and jerk fries. Also, they'll give us a free drink at midnight and we can watch the Canucks game first.

vijita, how long are you going to be in Vancouver during new years? Any chance for a quick hang out?

Just the one night, unfortunately! New Year's Day brunch is all I can really think of (we get in later on the eve and have a late reservation at Wild Rice) if any place is open and you are available!

Hm. I plan to sleep in late and nurse a hangover on New Years Day. Another time then! :)

Hey Vancouver, where do you get your hair cut? Looking for somewhere with animal-friendly products (I've previously gone to Aveda, but it's gotten pricier), and that doesn't charge an arm and a leg...all suggestions appreciated!

Hm. I generally don't get product put in my hair, and I'm not sure what they use for washing (bad vegan, bad!) but I go to East Vanity Parlour beside Budgie's Burritos. I usually pay about $45 before tip, which is a lot less than the $60 I've paid elsewhere. They specialise in retro and edgy styles, but can do all kinds of cuts. I like them - they're chilled out and don't give me crepe for cutting and colouring my own hair.

East Vanity Parlour is awesome, my friend's sister works there. However, I'm also not sure what they use for shampoo/product (I don't use it either). If you give them a shout I'm sure they will be more then happy to answer your questions. Very reasonably priced too.

I hope Jorge Garcia decides to post in this thread. Pho meetups with Jorge? Wishful thinking...
Anyway, what used to be Chau in the West End is now Kin Resto Bar and except for really obnoxious dance music and the sleek new name it's exactly the same menu as Chau had. Cheap and delicious lunch specials! I know opinions were divided on Chau but I loved it both in its old and new incarnation and I love paying $9 for a gigantic bowl of noodles and perfectly cooked veggies that lasts me 3-4 meals.
I hope I didn't already post this in the restaurants thread. I have pho amnesia!
Also...another great experience from Panz Veggie. This time we had it delivered to our hotel and it was so fresh and non-greasy. The delivery guy (we got it delivered through orderit.ca who deal with a bunch of restaurants) was all about it and says it's his favourite business to deal with because the owners and staff are so great and he loves the food even though he is a (his words) carnivore. So cute. The yuba tastes so fresh and the large order of hot and sour soup was like 8 servings. And you guys know I can eat. Solid.

He posted in the thread about him, and Alcatraz, his new show, has been and is still filming in Vancouver!
I should add that the jury is still out on whether or not it is him, but I am gullible and I believe.

Good to know about the orderit.ca tip for Panz because the only problem (other than the vague menu) with that place is how long it can take to get food once you've ordered.

There is a charge, which is lame, but I find their prices reasonable and the portions huge so we weren't upset by it. In fact, we were leaving Vancouver the next day and in ordering two dishes had way too much food!

I will try to shuffle things.
Also, new menu at The Wallflower!! So many vegan things. Meatloaf! Shepard's pie! Pesto penne!! Crams brûlée! (though I've heard it isn't that great...not as good as the ice cream sandwich. And the choc cake is now vegan!)
