Good luck!
Not to be outdone, my IBS is an attention hors d'oeuvre. It's NYE, I am at work (only til 1030pm!) and I am invited to my BFF's party. I want to enjoy life a bit tonight. Nope. It hates me in the worse way. Bring on the meds!

Doing this gluten free thing for three weeks as of today. I would already punch someone for a piece of bread...

it gets easier, i promise! i restarted on the 1st and i'm fine so far. i use romaine leaves for wraps because the brown rice ones always let me down, and the schar gluten free stuff is yummy. http://www.schar.com/us/gluten-free-products/

I am in the clear! I had a mostly good week, maybe 1 day of troubles... But I only stuck to the diet like 67% I am terrible at diets I have no willpower.

It's been a week of no wheat and yesterday was just as bad as I usually am. I don't think this is helping, if anything all the rice and lentils and veg and stuff I've been eating instead of pasta and bread are making me need to go even more! Too much fiber!

It could be a lot worse though. I think of people who have Crohn's disease and consider myself lucky.

I totally agree - I'm glad that being gluten free makes me mostly feel better but really? A life without gluten? There are foods I super duper miss.
I licked some gluten-y cupcake batter yesterday (after being 100% gluten free since 1/1) and I immediately got gassy. Alas.

curses, I had soy milk and tofu after being soy and gluten free for a week and that made me pretty gassy... so far gluten no difference, but soy vaguely problematic. But when I have it regularly it doesn't seem to bother me.... this is all so confusing...

Yeah, sometimes if I eat the most trigger-free diet things still go wrong and then if I make irresponsible food choice nothing happens.

appifanie wrote: my gut is gluten detoxing and I totally shouldn't be near people right now. Is that a thing? I mean, is there really a detox from gluten? The shift in diet from regular vegan to gluten-free and sugar-free has come along with gale-force winds and I'm dreading moving today especially. I have had alot of symptoms like this, usually after going out to eat Chinese food or broccoli and would run to my car for my alka seltzer and ache until my ex would decide to drive. I have to learn more about IBS because what I'm experiencing, and have been periodically over the course of my 5 years as vegan, sounds alot like the above.

well by detoxing from gluten i mean the residual bits are moving through my system. i'm mostly okay with random bouts of gassiness and bloat.

I'd wager that this is because you're probably eating things that you weren't (or eating less of) before. Did you replace the added sugar with fruit?

We were picking whatever we wanted from the produce section so lots of apples and bananas were my snacks. Also, lots of beans were a part of it, and rice to boot. So we're definitely loading up on fiber but I seem to be the one with the gas.

I love you guys and gals because you let me vent.
I HATE MY IBS TODAY! Today was NOT the day for a flareup that hasn't happen in ages. Today, when I got 4 hours of sleep and have my period. When I had a horrible night at work the night before and had a million things to do before working another 8 hour shift then driving to my parents at 1 a.m. (two hour drive.)
Lucky for me it flared when I am at work and not at my friend's parents' house. I haven't seen her since October.
BUT WHY TODAY!? WHY NOW!? Seriously, I have too much to do and another 9 hours to stay awake. I need caffeine but IBS be darned, it hates me.

Yea, I can't touch coffee. The sad part is, I gave up soda for Lent! But by midnight tonight, I have a 2-liter cherry pepsi waiting for me and my drive. LOL. Way for me to break a habit. I was good all Lent, getting sleep, only drinking tea. I am prepared to get my second cup of hot tea soon.
It is strange how BAD my periods are, even on birth control. My legs feel like falling off (severe pain), my tailbone and asparagus HURT and my uterus ... well she is another story! I even took pain relievers that apparently are not a match for my vagina. It aggravates my IBS so badly on day 1 and 2 usually. It is like that whole region goes into a tizzy.

that's so sad! i realized i can't take the pill anymore (migraines w aura + pill = huge stroke risk) but before I knew that I took a pill that made my period 3 days of almost nothing. mircette? i think that was it. maybe your gyn can try a new pill for you?
