I just came back from ten days in Calgary and had a great time. I went to the new Farmer's market - fabulous! Soy latte from Fratellos was amazing. Also so many fruits and veg from Alberta and BC. My brother made a delicious salsa from his purchases and we ate 5 pounds of blueberries in one day (ten of us:-)). My 19-y.o. son, who busks at the market here in Halifax, played his uke for an hour and was pleased with the reception (and the money).
We didn't eat out a lot because we were staying with family but I had a very nice vegan meal made for me at Sirocco golf course where my nephew had his wedding reception - quinoa salad and roasted vegetables, with a green salad with smoky balsamic vinaigrette to start.
A nice panini (just ask for no cheese) and incredible view at Mercato in Canmore. They say their coffee is the best in Canmore but I doubt it.
Of course I couldn't leave without a trip to Phil and Sebastians - wow. I am a coffee lover, can you tell?
We just happened to be downtown on Stephen Ave. the day the food trucks were rolled out last Thursday. The lineups were crazy so we didn't eat anything, and when we came out of the museum they were gone, but we enjoyed seeing them.
At the Community Natural food store I got Dandies. First marshmallows in a few years and so good. Ethiopian food at a place near the train station in Kensington was delicious.
Maybe I will think of more. I was there for the family and scenery, though, not so much the food. First time I was back in 19 years and I hope it won't be so long till the next time.
ETA: Tabor corn! We spent two days at a cottage in Waterton Lakes with my aunt and she brought Tabor corn, which apparently is a big thing out there. It was tender and delicious and we had enough for two meals - yum!

Glad to hear you had a good time! I missed out on the food trucks that day too, I went to taste of Calgary instead. I wonder if there were any trucks with vegan items.

Heeeeyy Calgary! I haven't been on the PPK in such a long time! Summer.... ah summer. I know it's going to be hot this weekend, and possibly a bit longer, but I've started thinking ahead to the long, dark winter (sorry!) and I was wondering how many of you beautiful Calgary vegans would be interested in an informal monthly brunch thing? Say, one Sunday a month, details to be worked out?
I'm tentatively offering to host because I'm pretty central, just waiting on approval from my new roommate, because, well, it's her house too. I'm sure she won't object to an invasion of friendly people and delicious food once a month. :)
Respond if you're interested in attending, and I can go from there!

Holy crepe, I didn't know there were so many PPKers in Calgary! That makes me so happy. Maggie Muggins wrote: Yes! We need more bakers this year. The bakesale won't be until April or May but we'll probable start planning soon.
There's a vegan bakesale coming up? Duuuuude, I wanna help!

We haven't discussed the next vegan bake sale yet, it usually takes place around April/May. Just keep an eye out for posts, we'll definitely be in need of bakers again.

I was super excited about the brunch and joined the facebook group...but then I remembered that I work this Sunday from 11-5 and I had an epic sad. Will there be another one in December, perhaps? Count me in for the bakesale, though. I'd love to help out.

We probable won't be having the next one until January, there always seems to be too much going on in December. Hope you can make the next one!

I'm going to be in Calgary jan18-24 to help my sister either have a baby, or take care of her if she's already had him. If there's a brunch going on while I'm there, I'd love to sneak out!

I can make time!
I was trying to figure out travel plans from the airport in case my sister is in the hospital when I arrive, so I checked the calgary transit trip planner. My brother in law says I'll get mugged if I Take the bus. Am I going to get mugged if I take the bus?

ummm... varsity dr I think? It's definitely will be just me. I'm going to help my sister out (her due date is tomorrow) with her new bebe. Having Malcolm there would be overwhelming for her I think. I get in the morning of the 18th.

I used to live near Varsity, it’s a really safe area, I’ve walked by myself in the dark through there plenty o times. Since you can’t make the brunch, do you want to do a little get together and while you’re here? Have dinner or lunch or something? I’m not sure if you’ll have much free time but I’m free most evenings and on the weekends.

I'd love to! It's hard to say when I'll be able to sneak out though, my sister is still definitely pregnant and not at all close to labor.

Yay! Has your sister had her baby yet? Whenever you think you might be free just send myself or teapot a PM and hopefully we'll be able to get together. I can see if the other Calgary PPKers are free.

I get an hour for lunch but I'm pretty limited to what's in my vicinity (downtown)...which isn't a great selection unless you like fast food. Could you do dinner?

I'm supposed to be making pizza here for everyone. shiitake. I don't have to be at the airport until 8:30 or so. Is there anywhere close to the airport we could go for a drink or something, then I could take a taxi? Or maybe they won't want pizza tonight. Hmmm. They're gone to pick up my nephew fromthe hospital now, I'll see what they want to do when they get back.
