We hired a new coordinator. She has been here a week or so. She has been sort of rude to me, speaking to me as though I work for her or as though she is my boss.
Last week she sent me an email and ended it with "I am a schmoozer" (referring to herself) and that she couldn't' wait to "sell things" which is clearly my job and not hers. We set up a meeting for 8:30 today.
It is now 9 and she isn't even in the office nor has she called.
How do I handle it? I have already written up for her my departments policies and how they interface with hers.
I really just feel as this is all designed to keep me off balance and manipulated. HELP, please, my wise and reasonable friends.

hm.... first thought is wondering if there is some way to "let her go" ? (as in getting fired?)

I can't let her go. So, no not for me.
And the boss wouldn't fire the person who lied about the money... so I doubt getting fired is ever possible here.

When (if?) she does show up, can you talk to her honestly, about selling things being your role? And call her out on her rude behavior if need be? I work with all women, and unless you nip it in the bud by directly confronting the person involved, it will continue on and possibly escalate. Good Luck!

Calling out manipulators doesn't really work, because manipulators will just turn it around and blame you. Or at least a "good" manipulator...so if she IS a manipulator it might not work, but I suppose there is always the first attempt to figure that out. But yes, specifying roles would be important.

I mean this in the nicest way possible. You hate your job and it seems like you are not a good fit there Can you find another place to work?

I am working on it (really).

She was over an hour late and I was just very firm. My department really does equal my rules. She still used words that make me think she is less than upfront. But I think knowing in the back of my head that I hate it here and so what... gave me a weird internal strength.

b - call her on her shiitake when she pulls it

word. this is why i drink v8 mixed with vodka nips at work.

Oh lordy, I really don't have much to add here, but I totally know what you're talking about. That indifference really can bring some strength and comfort in a stressful work environment.

I'd still call her on her crepe though. It might not stop her, but it'll make you feel better as a human being... that at least you're doing SOMETHING.
