I can't believe this thread exists - I have these dilemmas all the time. Expect to hear from me a lot!
I made the key lime pie from Vegan Pie in the Sky, and put it in a bar fridge to set over night. My dad unwittingly turned the fridge off, and I didn't realise until the morning. It set anyway, of course, but it was left unrefrigerated for maybe eight hours.
Horrifically dangerous or no? I really want to eat it but don't want to die.

Okay, unsweetened cranberry juice: I bought a glass jug of unsweetened cranberry juice a couple months ago. I drank a glass, and then it's been sitting in my office fridge since. I want a glass today. I took a bit of a taste, examined the bottle, and it seems fine. I don't see an expiration or a "use within X days of opening" thing anywhere. It's still okay, right?

Fruit juice open more than a week is liable to give you a hot hole, in my experience I imagine.

I already made my decision about this one but let me put it to the team:
3 heads of broccoli are in a bag. #1 has mold (white fuzzy mold). #2 has some damp greyish spots but no full-on mold. #3 looks perfectly normal, a little faded in color, but on its own it would definitely be in the "eat me" category.
Eat #3?

Eat #3? My rule is that if it is living in an enclosed space (bag, bowl, etc.) with other moldy foods it's probably not safe. Mold makes spores, so I assume contamination has occurred even if I can't see it. I hate wasting food, but not as much as I hate being sick.

(And if I think about some of the restaurants and cafes I've worked in over the years, it's not that uncommon to have one or two spoiled vegetables in a box or bag, they just get tossed out and the rest are used - so if you eat out, you probably eat this kind of food more than you realise).

On Tuesday night last week I made a super delicious massaman curry and brought the leftovers to lunch for work. I ended up going home sick on Wednesday (gastro, unrelated to my tendency to eat dubious leftovers) and wasn't in for the rest of the week. It's now Monday and I'm wondering whether I can still eat the curry. It's been in the fridge, and I inspected and poked it this morning. It looks and smells fine and isn't slimy or anything. It's mainly tofu, potatoes and broccoli.
I stress that this is a really delicious curry.

Hmmm, I`m guessing the wasabi will be fine... What could survive that kind of environment!? My boyfriend drank pepsi that was 2 1/2 years old this week haha. He didn`t need to tell me that it was flat, that`s pretty obvious...

He didn`t need to tell me that it was flat, that`s pretty obvious... I once found a 3 litre bottle (anyone else even remember 3 litre bottles of coke??) of coca cola in a friends basement (unopened). We all decided to have a sip. It must have been 15 years old at that point. It tasted how cleaning supplies smell. The rest got dumped. I found a pack of gardein chick'n breasts in the fridge (not the frozen kind- the kind that gets microwaved for 2 minutes, then you add sauce). They say best before jan 30. It's feb 6th. They're expensive, so I don't want them to go to waste.... but I don't want to get sick either. Eat it?

I'm not familiar with wasabi, and I generally think that stuff that is fermented or contains certain ingredients with preserving qualities are okay, but I had some miso that went bad after a few months. Not six months... about two. It blew my mind. Four years—I dunno, man.

As a dumpster diver I`ve eaten ALL KINDS of things past due date, and I`m still typing! I think the oldest yogurt I ate was 2 1/2 months past due date but it tasted fine and didn`t give me any stomache issues - Yay!

I once found two organic vegan soup containers that were 3 1/2 months past due and that tasted fine too! Mmmm...

wasabi loses its oomph after some time, but i don't think it would kill you.
miso going bad that early sounds wicked suspicious. My MIL is always going on about how "boughten" miso is made with weird shiitake like cornmeal and sweet potatoes and that's why you can only eat homemade... maybe she's on to something.

I actually already ate this, but I came here to share my triumph- vegan roadkill.
I found a bag of quinoa on the street that had been run over. There was tire rubber on it and everything and its quinoa guts were starting to spill out. But I tied the bag off, brought my prize home, cooked it, and put it in my face.
