I'm coming! I may be there after 9, I'm leaving Bellingham around 8 and it takes an hour and a half to get there!

Sorry to be last minute but without a car it seems I'd have to take 3 busses and that isn't going to be possible with my kid in the cold. I am sorry.

Pfft, anyone who isn't willing to take three buses in the freezing cold with a toddler in tow is... well, completely sane and reasonable, that's what. We missed you, but that's totally understandable.
Breakfast was fun! That was too much food to eat before a run, though. Lesson learned.

There is a 5% chance we will move to Seattle. Do you love it?

So, how gray and rainy is it? What are the schools like? Will it be easy for me to meet other parents with young kids? Ae there good mothers groups? What areas are good for families to live? We would be first moving to a rental and eventually buying, what is the rental market like for a house? Would we need more than one car?

someone else recently asked the same question as you, littlebear but this thread is 20+ pages long so scrolling through would be a pain
i'm going to create a separate thread because we get asked about this a lot and it would be easier for everyone.

What areas are good for families to live? We would be first moving to a rental and eventually buying, what is the rental market like for a house? Would we need more than one car? I love Seattle. This is totally my "heart home" so I'm definitely biased. The downsides just bother me less because I feel like I belong here. It's definitely overcast a lot. It rains less than you've undoubtedly heard; it drizzles a lot, but doesn't really pour a lot. But the days when the sun comes out are pretty spectacular and, to me anyway, they make up for a lot. I can't really answer any of the schools/parenting/family questions (yoohoo! FootFace!) Most areas of Seattle except for the downtown-ish ones would be fine for families. I don't have a great handle on the rental market. I have a 1360sf, 3 bed, 1.5 bath townhouse and zillow.com seems to think it would rent for $1500-1600/month. Seems about right based on the non-owner occupied appraisals I see at work... lots of house renting in the $1400-2200 range, depending on size/location/etc... The bus system is pretty decent. It just sort of depends on where you're living vs where you're working. Many of the people I know who have cars commute via bus, including me. If biker boy and I lived together we could do OK with one car because neither of us use our vehicles to get to and from work anyway. If you were going to live in Seattle and work in an East side suburb, you'd have a harder time with the bus.

We went to Wayward this morning and I took a page from katiejayne's book and ordered two breakfasts. It was a revelation! I couldn't finish everything, but that was more due to Inez having a meltdown than lack of appetite. But yay leftovers!

Also: FootFace, can you explain a bumper sticker to me? It said "linguists do it through k's" and the text was printed on a double ended arrow. Is it hilarious?

Many of these places have already been mentioned, but, no need to go through the entire thread for new users:
Best vegan desserts in Seattle: Mighty O Donuts (try the grasshopper: mint and chocolate!) Full Tilt Icecream. They usually have 2-5 different vegan, coconut milk-based icecreams available
Best vegan restaurants: Araya Thai: 100% vegan, no need to question or worry Wayward Vegan Cafe: likewise
Don't neglect Indian, Middle Eastern, or Thai restaurants. Many Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants serve 100% vegan things that are vegan naturally (channa masala, falafel, etc.). Many Thai restaurants in my experience in Seattle have been very good about preparing curries completely vegan (no fish sauce, oyster sauce, etc.)
