No, tapers do not stay in your ear. They're not meant to be worn as jewelry.

Jojoba oil is my number one ear lube of choice, it's fine for ears that aren't healed and it's great for massaging your ears. It seems from what I have read jojoba oil or vitamin e are the best? I think I will go for jojoba though. I bought stainless steel tapers and little spiral "plugs" - there weren't any actual plugs at 16g because I guess they aren't that much bigger than actual earrings.

For stretching I use Astroglide, and for massaging I prefer jojoba oil, as well. I've also found LUSH Skin Drink lotion is really nice for keeping them moisturized in the wintertime.
Also, last week I stretched my cartilage up to 6g after having waited 9 months since my last stretch before it was ready to budge. Goal size is going to take foreeeevveeeer, and I'm kind of wishing I had gone with a dermal punch from the get-go.

For stretching, I use lube. Just regular, plain lube.

Maybe I exaggerated a little bit. I know one story, and this guy was said to have very thin lobes from stretching to something like 25mm. Don't worry, wear earmuffs!

Ok, phew! I'm not sure I can carry off earmuffs, but I have pretty chubby lobes and I have ordered some cheap non-metal plugs just incase!

I bought the crescent expanders because I had a hard time finding 14g jewelry that I could leave in my ear for the whole day. The stainless steel tapering kit I bought came with 14g tapers, but the smallest plug was a 12g (may have been 10g, I don't have the set infront of me), which I can't fit into yet. I just saw this link, and will look into getting those 14g plugs! Thanks for the advice on jojoba oil, I've been looking for a lube as well.

My gf offered to get me a piercing when I get back to Chicago and I need to figure out what I want. So many choices. I kind of want to get my nostril pierced (again...) or maybe a bridge piercing (but I wear glasses) or...I don't know. So many choices.

Bridge sounds like a bad idea if you wear glasses! Hehe. What about septum? You have that already? Those are probably my second favorite piercing next to stretched ears.

I know! Every time I see a pic of someone with glasses + a bridge piercing I get jealous, but I'm pretty sure I would just hurt myself. I've been wearing glasses most of my life & habitually shove them violently up my nose. So it would probably be a recipe for disaster. So cute though.
I do already have my septum! It is my favorite, for sure. No stretched ears to compete with that, yet. I need new jewelry though, bought a too-small retainer last time and it fell out when I was riding my bike :( I can never remember what sizes my piercings are. Right now I have an old labret stud in it.
I like the look of monroes & medusas but my old lip piercing drove me nuts after a few years. Plus I am scared I will smash my face into something and hurt myself.
Maybe I'll just try to get her to put it towards a new tattoo. I really want a new piercing though! It's been so long.

Wow that kind of freaks me out. I definitely wouldn't want my glasses on all the time.
Today I received my 12g, 10g and 8g stretching kits. I plan to wear my 14g earrings for a few more weeks before I play with the 12g.

I didn't look close enough. I saw the screws and thought that you had to unscrew them off.

I just went to get the grab bag thing and shipping was like $18. Boo. I think I'll just save up for a pair that I really want rather than pay $33 for something I might not even like.

Anyone know what kind of product one would use to make plain wood safe for ears? Like a sealant or something? Wooden plugs never seem like raw wood, there's definitely more to it.

They're usually waxed or oiled. There are specific types of wood that can be used for jewelry since some are toxic. Personally this is why I only buy from reputable producers since I want to know that the people making it are aware of that.
