And that's great. That sounds like a place I need to go.

If you're heading to Japan Centre, be sure to pick up a bottle of ume vinegar if you're into cheezy cashew spreads. It gives such a great character to it!

So, is the High St Kensington Whole Foods really the only place to buy nooch? I fear what kind of debt I'll accumulate if I enter a Whole Foods now, with this unstocked kitchen... ninjablossom wrote: Ground Flaxseed was on sale in Holland and Barret last week :) That's where I got it! Thanks

My local health food shop sells containers of the Engevita(sp?) brand for less than £3 - I vaguely recall maybe having seen it at the one near Spitalfields market as well. If you can't find it there, I can get a tub and bring it to Vegan Drinks on Thursday.

Confirmed on Spitalfields, just went there the other week and they had both the B12-version and the regular one. :)

If you can find a local world foods store there's a good chance they'll have flaxseed. And probably at a lower price thatn Holland&Barrett, too :) Good luck!

Hijacking this thread since it's got such a good name.
Where can I get amla (Indian gooseberries)? Preferrably not online.

I'm assuming that you've obviously checked your local Asian grocery shop? I've never seen them at a supermarket, but see them (both fresh and frozen and as a pickle) all the time in the little Asian shops. Failing that, then almost certainly you're going to have to get them online, and there's loads of sites that sell them. http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog ... 11-20.html

Yeah, I've tried pretty much all of them around here. I'm mainly looking for the powder to add to my smoothies. The problem with buying online is that for some reason my UK debit card won't work for some reason, and the sites I've found that sell it for a reasonable price won't let me use my Swedish card and have it sent to my UK adress. :/ So if someone has seen them in some asian grocery shop or those ayruvera medicine things (where they apperantly can be found) in London, please let me know.

Fritos? Or anything like them? I craaave them. Cheap vegan mayo? A good yet inexpensive mini food processor? And - seriously - Vitalite! It's like not sold in central London anymore! I've looked at all the shops. I probably just need to get to a regular sized grocery and not a metro version.

Sainsbury's (and probably other supermarkets) have yellow corn chips in their basics range that were well under a pound last time i checked. hopefully those are frito-y enough for you.
what do you consider cheap? Plamil mayo is about 2 quid (more for organic). there are some other brands that are vegan in supermarket free-from sections, but i don't know how much they are.
i haven't seen Vitalite in any supermarket for ages :(

2 quid sounds really good! I pretty much meant 'not Whole Foods prices'. I've had the yellow corn chips from Tesco but they aren't very good. I'll just keep trying :) Thanks. And what happened to Vitalite? Does anyone know? Anyone have other suggestions? I don't like Pure; it has no taste.

do you get the sunflower or the soya Pure? i find the soya variety is a bit nicer, but i need to use salt on my toast regardless.
what kind of mayo have you been getting? in my experience Whole Foods is on par with or cheaper than other health food stores price-wise.

Sainsburys sell Vitalite (though maybe only in the bigger stores).

I can usually only find Vitalite at Tesco or Asda. I can't get it from Sainsbury's even when I shop online.

I think I had both kinds of Pure. I guess I should try adding salt. Haven't bought a vegan mayo here yet (rarely did in the states) so I'll try to find the Plamil.

I quite like the plamil mayo. The kelkin one is a bit runny for my liking. Better suited as a dressing for salad.
