This was featured on On Point last night (an NPR show for those of you not addicted to public radio) and it sounded amazing. I just looked through the index and it doesn't even seem to be fully vegetarian, although meat ingredients look few and far in between. http://www.amazon.com/Bean-Cookbook-Rec ... 473&sr=1-1The Look Inside feature wasn't very helpful in looking at recipes, so I figured I would ask here. Normally I wouldn't be that interested in a non-vegan book, but it's all beans, so I am intrigued! If you have this (or have even looked through it somewhere) how is it, and is it "vegan enough" to be worth it? I really, really love beans.

The look inside feature does make it look promising. Vegan recipes are denoted with a little symbol. One of the three dessert recipes they show is vegan.

I was thinking of getting this because I love Passionate Vegetarian by the same author. I will watch this post with interest.

And it's fairly cheap so I may make the leap and report back. You know, for the good of the forum and all. Seriously, I wanted to eat my radio last night.

Okay, I did order this but it's not available to ship for a few days. I was iffy on ordering a non-vegan book, but the author's thoughtful and polite response to a review sold me, especially the quote: Quote: Beans want you to be happy, and so do I. http://www.amazon.com/review/RDMNDECM61 ... hisHelpful

I just picked this up from the library and can't decide what to make first. Even though there are meat and vegetarian recipes (and many recipes have loads of oil), I feel like this is a cookbook I really dig. I love the international flavours.. and who knew there were so many different kinds of chili? I can't wait to see if the recipes deliver.

I picked it up. It is sooo informative. I haven't made anything but it's a great read. Recommended!

I'm also glad no one has commented on my inattention to detail...it's Bean BY Bean. Sorry Crescent!
I made the red chili and it is really good. Overall, I really like the attitude and feel of this book.

I'm loving this book. I've made two things so far (Harira [lentil/chickpea stew] and Edamame, Broccoli, and Bok Choy Skillet) and both have been way better than I was even expecting.

My book finally came and I made something -- the 5 bean salad. I did the cilantro-"honey" dressing variation with added jicama. The dressing recipe made way too much for the salad, but, other than that, this is delicious. It made tons so I've been enjoying it all week.

I've made the Edamame, Broccoli, and Bok Choy Skillet and Lentil Tapenade with good success. I felt the tapenade needed more lemon juice, though.

I have this book out from the library (long wait!) and enjoyed my read through last night. I'm planning to make one of the Syrian lentil soups for dinner tonight.

I made the Spicy Syrian lentil soup with the addition of one more jalapeno, the optional garlic from the variation and a good pinch of smoked paprika and it was so damn good. My girlfriend and I went through the pot in less than 24 hours. That is...revolutionary. I'm excited to try another recipe.

I made the "Jamaican Coat of Arms" last night. It is a simple red beans and rice. I used brown rice rather than converted and cooked it a bit longer than instructed with a slit pepper thrown in as described in her spicy variation.
This was the best red beans and rice recipe I have ever made and it was so easy. I recommend it.
I also made her refried beans and they were great also.
This is a great book. There are many tips and variations on the recipes. It is not a vegan book but most of the recipes have vegan and vegetarian variations and if they don't you can usually veganize it yourself.
I like the way she writes. She has introductions to each recipe. Many times she describes a meal she made using the recipe and who she served it to and what the weather was like, etc. She puts so much of herself into it. I really enjoy reading it.
