World's first vegan fried egg. Apparently the ingredients are ‎"Nutritional Yeast, Sodium Alginate, Kala Namak, Beta Carotene". Yum?

That glistening yolk close-up is grotesque.

Non veggs (that is real eggs) grossed me out enough. Look at that center, it looks like puss filled boil ready to explode!

At least the yellow of real egg yolks says "that is an egg" to me. That dark reddish-brown says "This has gone bad."

But if it's tasty enough for dipping toast bits into that would make me quite happy. I'd give it a try.

I'm scared. When going vegan eggs were the first thing to go because they started creeping me out and I couldn't stomach them anymore. I will probably buy it though

I had a chance to try this. I didn't. (I never liked eggs anyway.)

I don't understand. It's an egg you fry or it's a fried egg? How is it packaged? The site is not very informative.

Oh god yes. I would go nuts for this. For me, the best part of fried eggs sopping up that yolk with some crispy toast.

So, count me in. I'm curious that this - like vegan cheese - is going to suck for many years and then some new and exciting company will come out with a new product that blows the competition out of the water (ahem, Daiya).

I think it's like a powder you mix up? Like ener-g or whatever

I think to start out, it's a powder that just makes the egg yolk part. Eventually they'll have the white available, too. That's why all the posted recipes just have vegg yolk in them.

Haha someone today asked me if there was a good vegan cheese out there, and I automatically replied "no, they all taste like shiitake".

Then i remembered Daiya and had to correct myself.

(yes, i know some of you hate dayia. meh)

So, basically it is just a gelling agent and ingredients to make the gel look (beta carotene) and taste (nooch, black salt) like egg, right?

It's not that different from the method to season tofu with nooch and black salt, the canvas ist just made of something else.
If they have an egg white eventually it will probably be just sodium alginate and maybe a little bit of kala namak.

The white is sodium alginate and silken tofu.

Most of us, I'd guess.
