Oh crepe. Losing Aveda would seriously suck. The moisturizer is the only one Ive found in past 10 years that works for my skin.
Actually, I just bought the 16 ounce size for my mom and I yesterday (I guess I am paying my rent in moisturizer this month--no joke). That lasts the two of us about 10 months (we keep it in the fridge and refill our little bottles).
Please say it ain't so.
(and the irony--China, who sends all kinds of crepe like lead toys all over the World, is insisting on animal testing so stuff is safe? Really?)
My mom isn't vegan but she is veg and she won't use anything tested either. Aveda stuff is her one and only splurge, so Aveda will lose a good customer there for sure.
I just saw that MAC is on the list too.

Has anyone written to Estee Lauder about this or seen a non-PETA source reporting this story? Also, isn't the EU putting in a test ban soon? Does this mean that EL will not be sold in Europe?

Does this mean that EL will not be sold in Europe? The ban is already in process. I'm guessing it only applies to European brands? The shops here are filled with nothing but P&G and L'Oreal brands (Hey, wait. Isn't L'Oreal European? Their testing status has been unclear for the longest time it seems, but they are often listed as testing. Does anyone know?). I'm most upset about MAC as I haven't tried Aveda (only available via a few internet places) or Origins (too expensive).

So I thought Estee Lauder was testing all along. I had read something like this previously: http://www.uncaged.co.uk/animaltesting.htmThe second category are cosmetics companies that tend not to test on animals themselves but continue to buy, use and benefit financially from chemical ingredients that have recently been tested on animals by their suppliers. Many cosmetic brands fall into this category e.g. Avon Boots brands Chanel Clarins Clinique Estee Lauder Givenchy Revlon Tresemme

I am so bummed.i just stocked up on aveda stuff and I am super close in points to getting a $150 gift certificate. On top of that, the other hair care company I really like, bumble and bumble is on the list too! So frustrating.
Eta: I know it is much worse for the animals and I should t be so upset about my selfish desires.

I'll have to use up the Aveda I have and redeem my points for non-product items. fork you Estee Lauder. Aveda is a local company that I used to have some pride about.

Goddammit!!! I was just about to refill pretty much all my Origins stuff. I guess I'll go back to using Lush products. Too bad they don't have a moisturizer with sunscreen. :(

Too bad they don't have a moisturizer with sunscreen. :( I KNOW. That was my big thing, too! I wrote about this in the Origins thread, but in desperation on Saturday I emailed Lush asking if a face moisturizer with SPF was at least a possibility in the semi-near future, and they responded saying they'd have to register in the U.S. as a pharmaceuticals company if they wanted to label any of their products as containing SPF (which they don't want to do). The only SPF product they make is available in the UK, which I was ALMOST crazy enough to buy until I saw that it had lanolin and beeswax in it. Aaaaaand was roughly $50 just on its own. Maybe I'll try Boscia after this, but I seriously just bought a new Brighter By Nature last week, so this'll last me well over 6 months (through the summer). Ugh.

I can remember being told by Lush USA to "wear a hat" for sun protection which is bullshiitake advice and dangerous.

Okay, all may not be lost on the SPF front. I remembered seeing something in a magazine once about stuff you could add to moisturizer to make it have SPF, and I found it: http://www.dermalogica.com/us/html/prod ... ht+defenseA googling reveals that Dermalogica claims to not test on animals (though someone please tell me if I'm wrong). I would be okay to use this in conjunction with Lush products, I guess.

Thaaat is amazing, but $43 on top of a $30+ moisturizer is a tad more than I'd be willing to spend.

Yeah, it's pricey. I think the SPF stuff only requires a few drops per container of moisturizer, though, so hopefully it would last for a while. Ugh.

The biggest mistake people make with sunscreen is to not use enough. I hate spendy suncreen because people tend to ration it because it was wicked expensive.
