Livi wants to be a black cat for Halloween. Yesterday I bought her a black velour (tee hee) track suit at Target (it has some sparkles!) and I want to make her a tail and ears and I figure I can draw on a nose and whiskers. I bought black pantaloon hose for the tail and I have batting so I figured I could just stuff it to make a tail. Should I make it a tie around or a clip on? Anyone have any experience? And what about the ears? Help?

you could probably just do black and pink felt on a black headband for the ears.

if you wanted to get fancier, you might try to find some fuzzy black gloves or some kind of fuzzy fabric that you could cut to make ears. it'd look a little nicer than felt.

but i think felt would be fine.

it sounds cute!

For the tail, do whatever's easiest. Probably tie around. Or even just fasten it on with a safety pin.
And I agree with esme on the ears. Felt or fabric glued to a cheap headband. Pipe cleaners or cardboard can be used to help them stand up if they flop over.

If you want to get really fancy, you buy a velour type fabric at a craft store and make the ears and tail out of that.

If you feel like sewing this is a good tutorial for the ears: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/kitty_cat_ears

And a fluffy cat tail: http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/cat-tail it looks like it may take a while but that is what tv is for.

The princess cat isn't much harder. She can wear the dress over the track suit. For the crown, you can make it out of paper or attach the ears to a cheap tiara instead of the headband.

And for the tail, I was also thinking you could just take a long piece of fabric, fold it in half lengthwise (right sides together), sew the open side and one end and then fill it with batting. Easy peasy. And this way, you can get a fabric that matches the track suit and ears.

Also: for extra cuteness, use an old dress that you don't care about and cut a hole in the but for the tail to go through. Otherwise, just pin the tail to the dress.

If you make it a tie on tail, then she can also take it off and use it as a sword!

And then she'll be a swashbuckling princess cat, which you have to admit IS kind of awesome.

You guys are awesome!

I went to the party store. She saw this. She wanted. It came with a towel too. Here's me, modeling it.

I wanted to be a cat for Halloween a long time ago. You know what my mom dressed me up as?

Nobody wants to be Peter Criss, not even Peter Criss!

Those cat gloves are pretty adorable. And princessy!

I'm having an impossible time trying to track down the shoes and/or wig I need.

I want a wig like this, but bright red (the wig pictured comes in red), but less than $50 (which the wig pictured is not).

Image

For the shoes, I basically want to find some simple pink or red pumps and I'll need to cover them in fishnet.

ETA: I've googled 'wig' and searched all the online Halloween stores. No luck! I may have to curl my own hair (find my curlers first, urgh), and then spray my hair red with that nasty fake spray color.
