How It All Vegan.

VWAV! My mom bought it for me when I went vegan -- I'm still so, so happy she did!

My first vegetarian cookbook was "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone". Sometime later, I bought VWAV. I was neither vegan nor vegetarian when I bought either. I think I became vegan about a year after I bought VWAV.

I'm pretty sure it was Veganomicon, but I went on an Isa spree pretty quickly and had all of them within a couple of months, plus Viva Vegan.

The Tofu Cookery by Louise Hagler and New Farm Vegetarian! Damn I loved those books and had them at a time in my life where my partner and I didn't identify as vegan but had made a rule that we wouldn't buy anything non-vegan at the grocery store and we hardly ever went out so it was pretty awesome. My first vegetarian cookbook was the Moosewood Cookbook by Mollie Katzen and I loved that one so much too!

that's a good one. i bought it a few years ago after using a former housemate's copy as a reference for cooking vegetables. it's now one of my husband's go-to books for recipe ideas.

My first vegan cookbook was How It All Vegan, but I wasn't vegan or even vegetarian at the time and the recipes didn't appeal to me. It wasn't until I got Vegan With A Vengeance that I finally went vegan. I've written vegan way too many times in this post.

How it all Vegan.

This was mine too! I still flip through it sometimes, but it's pretty massive and has a ton of dairy in it.

First vegan book was either VWAV or Vcon. I got those two around the same time. It's only been like 2.5-3 years.

It was love at first corn chowder I believe.
Or french toast.. or carrot raisin muffins, can't really remember because I was too busy cooking and consuming everything.

I remember when we were just young'uns in college, my future husband (who was already vegetarian) and I (who had just gone veg) searching our local Borders for our first cookbook as a couple living together. For some reason it ended up being this one. It's really basic, but it's so tattered at this point. I still consider her mexican lasagna our Signature Dish when we have friends over. It's amazing and easily veganized (as is mostly everything in the book.)

My first vegan cookbook was How It All Vegan, which I bought while interning at PETA right after college (don't judge, I know.)

Vegan Vittles!

My badass coworker gave me Vegan Planet for Secret Santa one year. I had never cooked from a book before and spent so much time cooking from that thing. Then I got VWAV and my love of cooking was sparked. I think the Fronch Toast sealed the deal for me. I was serving that for Mother's Day, lazy Sundays, and even at our wedding rehearsal brunch.

VWAV for me. Though I discovered the PPK about two years before, and used the recipes from the site - best pumpkin muffins ever. I lived at home with my parents though, and they are pretty not-vegan-friendly. So I went to university, ate mostly vegan, and ended up not going back for a second year. I left the States, moved to Canada, moved in with my partner, and bought VWAV with my first paycheck. I made so many things from it!

Found this at a used book store. I still use it for a lot of things.

I was raised veg on a whole lotta Moosewood stuff, but my first vegan books were Vegan Vittles and the very similar Vegan Table for Two.

My first vegetarian cookbook was Moosewood, which I started using back in college. My first vegan cookbook was How it All Vegan and I'm embarrassed to say that I still haven't made anything from it. The first vegan cookbook I started using extensively was AFR.

my very first was a book that came free with a subscription to Vegetarian Times called the Vegan Handbook which i dont think i have ever used.

the first one i bought was Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and the first food one (rather than just sweets) was Appetite for Reduction which is still bar none my favorite

I had a ton of vegetarian(Moosewood and other Mollie Katzen) and macrobiotic cookbooks first from when I was vegetarian (accidentally wrote vegetation first). Initially I either made the vegan recipes from those or veganized what I could from those for a while. Then my daughter went Vegan as well which meant I needed to bake her desserts. So I actually got Vegan with a Vengeance first for me and for the fauxtess cupcakes and then VCTOTW.

I was living with my bff, and she bought How It All Vegan so we could explore veganism together. There were some hits, plenty of misses. Then I did some exploring online, read some reviews, and bought us VWAV. VWAV is 100% the reason I knew I could eat a vegan diet and be happy.

It wasn't even that long ago, maybe 6 years, and I cannot believe how many more vegan cookbooks are out now.

I went vegan a month or so before my 17th birthday, so for birthday present I got some Italian vegan cookbook and a book called "Complete book of vegan cooking" or something. I thought all of the recipes in those were so weird, I never made anything out of them. (But I flipped through them again a while ago, and now some of the recipes actually appealed to me.)

Then I got Veganomicon for christmas, that's what really got me into cooking.

VWAV! I had already been vegan for a few months when my mom bought it for me. I didn't even realize vegan muffins and scones were possible before then. I'm not sure how I had survived those first few months!

I went vegan in 1997 and I am not sure if Eva Batt's Vegan Cooking or How it All Vegan came first for me. The first is TERRIBLE! OMG the food in it is so bad... of course I had no idea. I wish I had known about the New Farm cookbook or any of the others that existed in 1997.

But seriously guys, things have come so far since the 90s! I just marvel at how good we have it now.

Honestly I can't remember if I bought Peas and Thank You first or Veganomicon.. The first one I read was The Kind Diet, though..
