Bought a soyquick soya milk maker and I have been experimenting. I saw a recipe for soya milk with a tablespoon of rice and a tablespoon of oats as well as the beans and I tried it but all the stuff I have made tastes kind of empty. I add sweetener and vanilla extract but there is still something missing. I may try to add some whizzed up dates next. At least when you make your own you know what is in it to a certain degree but sno' good if it doesn't taste acceptable is it?

Anyone have any recipies I could try?

When I had a soyquick it used to be watery so I would run it 3 times and that helped!

I just tried the Alpro almond milk. It's OK, but it has a strong salted nut smell. I still prefer soy for straight drinking, so I'll probably use the rest of the almond on my cereal and go back to soy when I run out. But it would be my preference if I had to make something for someone who was sensitive to soy.

Oh, but when I was in Glasgow yesterday, I saw Almond Dream (next to the Rice Dream, so presumably the same makers), which I think is new. It was only £1.79. I didn't buy any, but I should've. It was at the local hfs rather than H&B, so I don't know how wide-spread it is (since I'm sure I didn't see it at my local hfs).

I saw Almond Dream in the Cameron Toll Sainsbury's yesterday! Also didn't buy any.

I've tried the Kara coconut milk/drink for the first time. It is ok but I won't rush out and get it again. I love Oatly for drinking and on cereal. It isn't so good in hot chocolate. Also I haven't bought any for a while because I have to go out of my way to get it, and it has now gone up in price!
Usually I drink the Tesco UHT sweetened soya and keep a carton of the unsweetened one on top of the cupboard for white sauces etc.
Lidl soya milk is VILE. Can't drink it or use it on cereal and it wouldn't be my first choice for a white sauce.

I love the Alpro Light, for everything. I've not tried an other non dairy milks than soya, but I have some almond milk to try. One thing I have noticed, I have a couple of recipes that call for non-sweetened almond milk, but that doesn't seem to exist in the UK. Am I just unlucky where I live, or is this a general thing?

Almond Breeze unsweetened original is my favorite non dairy milk. I keep soymilk on hand for sauces and baking, but almond milk is my go to for coffee and cereal.

Almond Breeze is very good, but unfortunately it's not available in the UK.

agent_44, the non-dairy milks are interchangeable for the most part, so i would just use unsweetened soya instead.

Tried the hazelnut milk. Kind of wish I’d opened it and tried it before I poured it all over my cereal!! Hahaha, it’s really not going to be any good for tea is it! It wasn’t bad though. I think overall I will stick to my unsweetened light soy, I still like that the best.

Yeah, it's fabbo in coffee and hot choc, but it definitely has, as Ms Rachel would put it, a wang to it. I'm liking the almond milk in tea though, and I've been stocking up on it while the £1 offer is still on as if I'm preparing for the zombie apocalypse. And the choc and coconut is just the best hot choc evah - 'specially with a slug of rum in it.

Chocolate Almond Breeze is the best one, hands down. But it should belong in the chocolate category and not in the alternative milks category. It's that good.

And the unsweetened version is disgusting and vile. It deserves product death.

I've liked the new Alpro almond (fresh and uht) and hazelnut milks, but I wish they didn't taste of sunflower as well (presumably from the lecithin), and I also think they taste very slightly of Play-Doh. Still, I've been drinking them straight, which I never do with soya.

so are the people mentioning Almond Breeze totally unaware that this thread is in the UK forum, or is my head up my arse and it actually exists in this country?

It's a subtle method used to encourage Almond Breeze world domination.

I realise that this may not be of overwhelming concern to everyone, but the Alpro hazelnut milk only has 10% of the protein content of their soya milk. If the rest of your diet mostly consists of chips and Starbursts, it may be worth taking into consideration.

Yeah, the reason I'm not all that excited about the new milks is that they aren't fortified. I'd make myself like the taste of the almond milk if it had some vitamins in it, but higher cost + lower nutritional value = me sticking with soy milk.
