We need an official earthquake thread so we can all jump excitedly/terrifiedly to it after a big 'un.
So without further ado: this morning, a 4.0 at 5:33am, epicenter in Berkeley. Anyone else feel it? I woke up, gasped, and promptly fell back asleep.

Pfft. A 4? We get 'em bigger than that in Virginia.
I kid. Hopefully everyone is all right and there isn't any damage. At least you guys are built up to code.
There was a 6.1 somewhere in Argentina this morning. Haven't heard any more details, but that isn't very unusual for that area.

it woke me up too. But when I got up this morning I couldn't tell if it really happened or if it was just a dream.

I was only half asleep when it hit so I felt it for sure.

I woke up right before it hit because I could hear the rumbling. I don't know if it's this old house itself or where it sits, but I don't ever remember being able to hear earthquakes for so long before they actually hit. That big series last year I swear I could hear almost 10 seconds out.
When it actually hit, I just thought, well, it's dark and I'm blind without contacts, so I'm just doing to pull the covers over my head to at least protect myself from falling plaster. I'm totally going to die when a big one comes.

Yep, I slept RIGHT through it. This is not the first time I've slept through one, either. The only quake I've felt since moving out here was the one back in the fall that happened to fall on Earthquake Readiness Day, or whatever the crepe that was.
I am probably on the list of people who will die when a real earthquake hits. When the little one hit in the fall, I didn't take any cover because I was too busy directing my students to take cover and so on, and any that hit when I'm asleep, I just sleep through. Oh well!

Don't worry, DC, playing dead is the best thing to do in an Earthquake. Most Earthquakes will sniff your seemingly lifeless body and then move on.

I felt it! I was awake but still in bed. I was actually debating whether to get up or try to sleep some more, and the earthquake decided for me!

I totally forgot about it until I read the first post, but I did wake up enough to feel it.
