The dress coveting thread is cute and all, but I'm plus sized and almost none of the dresses come in my size (US 16, usually...or 14 is the brand fits big - or XL). Let's talk about plus size fashion here. Where are your favourite places to shop? I'm looking at this dress for holiday parties:

You're "plus size"? Huh, I never would have guessed from the pictures you've posted. And I must admit that I've seriously considered printing out a picture of you to bring to my hairdresser because I love your hair (is that creepy?) and it's so hard to find good pictures of hair I want! That dress looks totally sexy and I love the colour. Go for it! Lately I've found that the clothes I like best are in the plus size section and I'm not. Why can't they make nice clothes for all body types?

Excellent idea! We're about the same size, it seems, and although I'm not completely phased out of straight-sized shopping (depending on the place and/or cut of the dress), a lot of the stuff in the regular dress-coveting thread doesn't work for me. I've been coveting this dress for a while - I will make it mine, my preciousss.

Why can't they make nice clothes for all body types? Thanks, that's very flattering and not creepy. Do it! And yes, I am plus sized. Used to be waif-like, then I hopped on the antidepressant train and learned about vegan cupcakes, both of which cause weight gain. I'm a happy size 16 now. It peas me off that the cut off for most brands is US size 12 - I mean, honestly! Why should I not want to look good too?

But forget Modcloth - I can't wear anything from there. I'm actually almost the exact same build as the model for that dress. I'm still proportionate, but just bigger. And OMG that dress...that is perfection. I think I need that.

I actually got a dress on Modcloth recently - sometimes their XLs fit, not that they carry many of them. I've seen a couple that come in 1x, 2x, even 3x, but they're few and far between.
The only thing that's kept me from ordering that dress is that I'm afraid it will be way too long! I'm a hair over 5' tall so I have that problem a lot.

I have no luck shopping for dresses in regular stores, I'm a UK size 17 - which I think works out around a US 13. Store's here stop at a size 16 so the same as in the US I think. There's a really nice boutique in Brighton that's made me a couple of awesome printed dresses in my size for no extra cost http://www.getcutie.co.uk/home/index.html

I am a size 16 and 5'10"...I shop at Torrid, Forever21+ and Target...It just really depends. Right now I need a new jacket, I love cozy hoodies, nothing structured because my arms are so long and things fit odd. I thought this would be comfy and step it up a bit (in black):

Nice! I like this thread! I can't find much in stores in my size, and I don't know where to look for good plus size stuff online that looks nice and more modern.

woo this thread is backed! my mind still looks for all this cute dresses I wore in my 20s and yeah lotsa cooking/eating of great food + a baby + just being happy means hardly any of those cute dresses will zip up over my gut or, even worse, the dreaded "fat back". I have sooo much stuff that barely fits, and that's not a good look for anyone!

I'm a huge fan of sweater dresses. I basically live in sweater dress + tights + boots in the winter. These dolman-styles ones are suuuuuper comfy and I need more of them. Starting with this one! Alloy is for teenager or whatever, I know, but they have extended sizes in almost everything and some of their stuff is really cute. Also, this. I love this, it looks so snuggly.

I'm a little over 5' too, especially since I stopped wearing my hair so big. I wear 14 pants but sometimes need a 16 skirt. I know I'll never be tiny but I am trying to tone up so I won't mind if I am a solid 10/12 down the road. Paprikapapaya- that dress is gorgeous, you should get it.

Thanks Veglicious :) I was totally smitten with lots of the stuff on the Lucie Lu website amandabear posted so I bought some stuff! I didn't buy the dress you said you liked, amandabear, even though it's gorgeous I need more work appropriate stuff right now. So I got this stuff: This top because it has cup support (I have big boobs) And this skirt because it's so cute:

I need a fatty fashion mentor. Any tips on where I can go for help in developing a sense of style? I'd like my casual wardrobe to step up a bit from jeans and t-shirts and my work attire needs help too. I'm a size 28, so most straight-size stores have nothing to offer me.

Paprikapapaya, I'm interested to hear how their stuff fits! I follow a ton of fatshion blogs, I'll have to go through my reader and post some here tomorrow. BluePlasticStraw wrote: I need a fatty fashion mentor. Any tips on where I can go for help in developing a sense of style? It comes down to figuring out what you feel good in and playing off those basics, I think. Almost every outfit I wear anymore is a variation on dress + boots or skinny jeans (or jeggings, jeggings are awesome!) + cute top + cardigan + boots (I am a boot hors d'oeuvre), because I know I can throw on almost any combination and feel pretty cute.

YAY! thank you for making this thread. For ideas on how to dress fashionably, the Fatshionista community on Livejournal is a great resource, and I also love this blog: http://frocksandfroufrou.com/I shop online a lot because I don't see many things in stores that I can wear - either I don't like the styles, or the clothes don't fit my body shape. Some of the online merchants I frequent are B&Lu, Alight and Torrid.

I ended up going with this dress for the holiday party: http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Curve-Exc ... &clr=BlackIt's coming from the UK but the shipping is super quick, and the stuff on that site is pretty decently priced even with shipping. This dress cost me less than if I bought it at the mall!
