I'm pretty excited about it. I'll probably see it as a matinee within a couple days of opening. I hate crowds and being awake past midnight.

Yes! I want to go Friday night after work but my and my partner's anxiety around crowds will probably make us wait a week. I really want to see it NOW! Boo.

I saw the screening last week and I liked it...but I didn't enjoy it. Maybe because the subject matter is essentially not enjoyable, but I thought it was missing a spark of energy to drive it forward. It felt very well done, but almost in a perfunctory way. Did anyone else feel like that?
Also, I read the wiki entry for the second book because I'm just so curious and under 'Themes' it said "One major theme for this book is survival.' Oh man, I love me some wikipedia insight.

No midnight showing for me. Sunday afternoon at the IMAX is the plan. Good to hear that they didn't ruin it!

GG has declared he does NOT want to see this with us. He loved the book—he inhaled it in 3–4 days—but is dead-set against seeing the movie.
Can someone tell me: is it gory? Are the violent scenes toned down at all? Really scary?

Going to see it with a bunch of friends this Saturday, then drinks and discussion after. I'm looking forward to it, but not really freaking out about it. I thought the books were alright, but nothing to go crazy for. I think it will fun to see how the movie matches to the pictures I've created in my head.

My housemates are all at this right now but I havent read the book yet so thought I'd wait until I'd done that first. Not sure it really sounds like my thing but they love it so I'll give it a go.

I cannot deal with scary movies or gore, and it was ok. Some gross things (like showing big cuts in legs and stuff) and some of the deaths are shown in close-up but it wasn't really bad.

I'm waiting until next week, but I'm excited.
I'm still amazed that it's only PG 13, so the gore can't be that terrible right?

I'm going on Sunday! I'm excited. I hate crowds and avoid going to the theater (I honestly don't remember the last time I went to see a movie) but I really want to see it so I'm going to brave the mall theater for it.

There were lines literally around the block in downtown Santa Cruz today, including lots of t-shirts with things like "I [heart] Katniss" written on them in permanent marker and signs saying "District 11" or something like that above certain parts of the street. (I haven't read the book, although I have it in the to-read stack, so I don't know what it actually said. Plus the handwriting was awful.)
Anyway, woot I guess for youngsters actually reading books.

I'm waiting til next week to see it, but I might have bought a District 12 shirt from Hot Topic today. I am not ashamed.

Yep, but I wasn't super excited to begin with and went in with really low expectations. It was well done but I wasn't blown away once it was over. FootFace wrote: Can someone tell me: is it gory? Just saw it! Very pleased. Want to jump Lenny Kravitz's bones.

I was disappointed with how much they toned down the violence and gore. I usually hate that stuff in movies, but after reading all the books I really wanted to see how they would deal with it.... although I wasn't expecting much with a PG-13 rating.
Guess I'll just have to watch Battle Royale again. That movie scared me for a week. I love Japanese horror.

It wasn't gory - the blood was really minimal - but I kinda was sitting there in a theater full of 12 year olds wondering how they were processing the visuals of kids killing kids. Because even though I read the book, watching it was weirder than I expected it to be.
