I ended up going to Mesob with my mother today, which was great, and then we walked over to Go Lightly. We'd wanted ice cream, but didn't like any of the flavors today, but they had some Vegan Treats stuff, which was fabulous.

not much of a discount, but any is better than none.

Anybody know of a nice restaurant near Cape May that has decent vegan options and also has fish? Trying to organized a birthday dinner with some omnis.

Just wanted to let all the Jersey kids know that Lalibela in South Orange is now carrying exclusively vegan desserts on the weekends (there's no dessert on weekdays, for now). The owner is not advertising them as vegan (at the moment, at least) so as not to deter the omnis but they are 100% vegan and mostly organic and fair trade.

Also, the owner is now vegan! Yay!

The Surf Taco on Broad St had a Vegan menu on a stand at the front counter.
None of the items had cheese or meat substitutes.
I got a couple of "Kristy Tacos" that were pretty good: Grilled corn tortillas with brown rice, grilled pineapple and spinach.
There was another taco option and a couple of wraps.

It was too crowded to ask if this was something they were offering at all locations.

Oooh, nice. I think I'm going to be in NJ for most of May, and definitely want to try to explore some new places.

go lightly in montclair is looking for someone to buy out the lease and make a new vegan business in her space. (i don't know why she doesn't just hire someone to work when she doesn't want to work. if she's concerned about food quality, she can come in early, get the cold dishes ready and mix up ingredients to be cooked later by the employee. i suppose she's not ready for the change in how her taxes will be, and providing health insurance etc?) i mean if she wants to sell at farmers markets and stuff, she'll need to cook in a commercial kitchen, and it's better to own that kitchen than have to rent one each time she needs it. especially if the brick and mortar store can be bringing in money while she's not there.

Any good vegan places near Rahway? Also Ive heard about that deli opening up in Union. Ahhhhh, cant wait.

Killer Vegan deli in union has been in the process of opening for over 2 years now. I haven't heard anything new for over a year, which I worry doesn't bode well for it. The owner (youthtildeath) is on the PPK, so perhaps she can let us know where they stand.

If I were in Rahway, i'd try and get to Edison for veg Indian.

URGH. i was in asbury park very much looking forward to going to twisted tree this afternoon and they were closed for mother's day. what the fizzle kind of restaurant CLOSES FOR MOTHERS DAY. i could have screamed.

:( It was on their FB page, but I totally feel your pain. Did you see if Confetti Eddie's is still on the boardwalk? We couldn't find it.

Tofulish, I was in Asbury last night and can confirm that Confettie Eddie's is in fact on the boardwalk! They had vanilla, strawberry, coffee swirl and something else. For some dumb reason, I was really full on tofu+veggie stir fry and banana spring rolls and passed on the ice cream, 24 hours later and I regret it.

I have to look closer next time!!

yeah, i didn't notice it, but we had belle and i was trying to keep her from getting distracted by all the people and other dogs.

I love Asbury Park pre-Memorial Day with Cuddles! So happy Belle had fun!

I need to go a few more times before it becomes off limits for dogs (though the AP dog beach is pretty nice). We go to Sukhadia in Edison, and they let us eat out on the patio with the dog. Its right off exit 131 and soooooooo good.

Anybody want to get together for lunch at Mesob (or some other Ethiopian restaurant) sometime this week or next? I'm craving Ethiopian food, which I can't get in PA, and my mom is dieting and can't go with me, and no one else in my family likes it.
