^ totally. But the workshop episode was pretty accurate. Like I felt that some of the numbers were purposefully bad and overwrought bc that's how it would be at workshop stage. And that was pretty insightful. Also I think everyone is supposed to hate the assitant. He's the villain, and he's not that great of a character for a villain, so it's like you hate him with the show but also against the show.

I started watching. Can see myself getting hooked, even thought lots of it is awful.

BDJ IS SINGING! My faaavorite guy Oh man that better not be the singing that was rumoured for the past week, bc I'll be so disappointed. He has an amaazing voice and should get to sing normally!
Also, yay for a Streep on the show!

Also this show is HORRIBLE at incorporating songs into episodes. Like, horrendous. Singing 'Dance to the Music' in the bowling alley? The awful song Karen is singing with One Republic that would never in a million years be in a Marilyn musical?

Oh good! I'm so excited. So I really love Debra Messing in this even though I don't like her cheating. I don't have normal TV so I'll have to watch this tomorrow on fake TV.
Karen bores me to death. I like the rest of the chorus though.

And the plot is very black and white most of the time...like most musicals, so I don't have a big problem with the simplicity of an all-bad villain. But those scenes with him and Angelica at the redneck bar are boooring. Big Buck Hunter? Really? And I don't care about the apartment. Why would I care about the apartment?! Why is that even a thing?

Vijita, I agree about Karen. I don't know if it's the writing or that Katharine is just a bad actress, but Karen comes across so one-dimensional compared to the others. OK,so assistant guy isn't gay? Mind blown.

Wooo! I'm gonna watch the new episode on the ferry. I am definitely the only person on this island who watches musical theatre on their laptop in the car on the ferry.
I think she is a bad actor. I don't watch AI and JUST found out that she was a contestant, so that makes more sense. The scenes with her boyfriend are painful. He's soooo one-dimensional too. I'd love to see him at his job again or something. What do they see in each other? That relationship is so flat.
The short chorus girl who gave Karen the gig is adorable.

Oh god, this episode. The bowling alley. Way too much Karen. Ugh. The Touch Me performance is hideous.

That really was a terribly bad episode. They need to get back to work on the musical so the songs will suck less. I want to see a show about people who sing for a living, not one where people sing allatimes just cause...i would have watched glee if thats what i was going for.

Katharine McPhee has a pretty voice and all, but her voice is boring as fork. I could comment on her bland personality as well, but really, just when it comes to her voice, there's nothing special about it! Her voice lacks soul and attitude. It's just bland pop music to me. :(

And her character is so boring. What's to like? She's self-obsessed, jealous, and doesn't even care about her boyfriend's pretty-damn-important shiitake. At least Ivy shows vulnerability and commitment to friendships (thought I don't forgive her for forgiving shady dick director).

I really want to like this show, because Broadway! Singing!! Dancing! but I have limited free time as it is, and I'm starting to get bored.

I know what you mean...I was saying that a couple of weeks ago, but I think it's getting worse. If the assistant doesn't get the ax soon, I'm afraid I'm going to give up on the show.

At least Ivy shows vulnerability and commitment to friendships (thought I don't forgive her for forgiving shady dick director). Oh, I completely agree about that as well. There's almost nothing I admire about her character beyond having a pretty face, which is hardly something important (though I think if her face was mashed with Ivy's, it'd look a lot like Marilyn Monroe's). Like when she was flirting with that press secretary fellow in her red dress and agreed to go back to his hotel room for "room service," what the fork? I don't care if she's trying to get into character or whatever; it was going a *little* too far for me, even if she never planned to do anything. I was just complaining about her boring voice getting an undeserved amount of attention, such as from the record producer (whoever was with her for that demo) and the people making the Marilyn show. I just don't buy it. Plus, sometimes she sounds a little Autotune-y. I didn't expect to, but I think I like Ivy a lot more now. She's complicated and her singing voice is just awesome.

Yeah, that number at the bah mitzvah was auto-tuned for sure.
Ivy is adorably likeable in her flaws. The writers don't seem to be giving Karen any personality flaws, which makes her just seem super unrealistic.
I think Julia's affair storyline was written pretty well.

I was surprised by Debra Messing's character tonight. I'm so used to seeing her in comedic roles that it was kind of shocking to see her do drama so well. I bought it, anyways.
This downward spiral of Ivy is really weird. I feel like I should feel sorry for her, but instead I feel apathy.
