Hey, I was thinking, I know Barnivore exists for discovering the veganness of libations, but it would be cool if we could do a vegan wine/beer/booze reporting thread/subforum! It would be cool to share reviews of enjoyable vegan potations, methinks.

I know I got super-excited when I found out Southern Tier's Choklat was vegan, but I didn't know until I tried it that it's best chocolate stout ever!! So I figured I could try to pay it forward/obliquely by suggesting reviews. Whee!

There's more depth than a single thread can provide, I think. Wine, harder liquor, beers, etc.

If Isa decides to create a subforum, the threads can be moved there. Always a good idea to show that a subforum is needed by having active threads.

I remember when I went vegan over four years ago, and found out that Avery in Colorado was not vegan. I wrote them a strongly worded letter. Several years later, when I heard that they had gone vegan finally, I was so happy. I have trouble finding their stuff in the Bay Area, but boy do I like their beer!

I think this is a great idea. Barnivore is great but pretty sporadically updated, and it's always hard to find info on local beers and wines. I always email/call the companies myself, and I wrote and fact-checked a couple articles on vegan beer and wine a few years ago, so it's always nice to share that information.

I agree. I don't drink a lot of beer/wine but I want to try the beer-y/wino recipes. When it says "dark beer" or "red wine" I would like to know what the ppk recommends.

One of my favorite cooking beers is the New Belgium Abbey Ale. It's a dubbel with a pretty tasty flavor. It's great for doing beer batter!

I LOVE the Southern Tier Choklat--it's like drinking a chocolate bar! For the record, all of Southern Tier's beers are vegan, except for the Milk Stout.

Ommegang beers are all vegan; I'm from the town where they brew, and not only have I been on the factory a dozen times, but I'm friends with some of the employees. The company is also really into protecting the environment.

I'm down! I wish Barnivore had forums for the reasons stated above. I work in wine, so the knowledge I'd gain from it would be super useful.

Enjoying a La Folie from New Belgium from the bottle for my birthday. It's quite a good beer. It's a Flemish sour brown, with up front tangy raspberry followed by oakiness in the back of the mouth. At the end it gets this warm, bready flavor, like really fresh whole wheat flour (with the fruity flavors persisting, of course). I think I prefer it on tap, but it's quite a treat in the bottle anyway. Better than The Duchess, but still short of Russian River Supplication (on tap, anyway). I love sour browns.
