I've lived here 26 years and I've never seen the pumpkin spiders you're talking about. So I think spider species vary a lot by microclimate in Portland. The ones we get in our house are primarily a daddy-long-legs type, and I'm sure it's because we live in the middle of the woods, in a drafty old house. There is something that makes webs outside our front door in late summer/early fall, but they're not orange either - I think they might be a type of wolf spider. And then there are the cute little yellow garden spiders that eat harmful bugs in the veggie garden.
There are very few dangerous spiders here, so I wouldn't worry.

UGH people. Another question. What is up with all of the spammy job postings?! It's ridiculous. I have applied for two (and only two) admin-y type jobs that seemed like totally legit postings, and they both turned out to be the same freaking scammer. So frustrating. I feel like I don't even want to waste my time.

What sort of admin job are you looking for? You might check out: http://cnrg-portland.org/ for jobs in the non-profit sector.

Oh good call! I would like to perhaps work in some sort of creative environment, but I would probably be happy to work for a non-profit. I should probably just stay off of Craigslist unless there's a posting that is obviously not a scam.

Mars, I stumbled across this thread, and indeed.com (.ca) has been instrumental in my job search! Thank you so so much to both you and your boyfriend! And Kristen for starting this thread I creeped on to!

I'm looking to move out to Portland within the next couple months. Does anyone have any advice about finding work? Are there any job sites or classifieds that are worth looking into?
