NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

It seems to take so much longer to actually see any progress with cross stitch than with crochet. But, the wolf eyes are finally starting to look a little like something.

We are totally hat twins! I made mine a few months ago!

By trial and error I figured out the easiest way (for me) to knit socks. I've finished the first one, and I already love them so much!
(They're dark blue and off-white, but my cellphone eats colours.)

What size hook did you use? How many balls of yarn did you need? How big is it?

Size j but I am going to bump it to k for a commission, its 24 inches at the longest and 44 inches at the widest. I used about a ball and a half.

Wow....really? Only a ball and a half? I was guessing like 3-4! Okay, I'm definitely going to have to try this out. I'm all out of Calypso but I have a few balls of Psychedelic waiting. Wait! No! I am in the middle of 8 other projects right now, what am I talking about, starting a new one now?? AHHHHH...

I KNOW. I have a creeping feeling that my flat is full of different kinds of socks in all stages of development.

I make a lot of puppets/stuffed animals/toys, so my place tends to be full of unattached body parts!

one thing I really like about crochet patterns is that they often look like they are saying "Yo! Insert hook in third stitch..." when they are actually just saying yarn over.

Here I am with my knitted cowl and the crocheted potholder I just finished. Yay !

Now we're discussing my handiwork anyway: I have discovered that I'm not really into taking on gigantic knitting and/or crochet projects like sweaters and such. And I need some help thinking about my next project.

For me, needlework is more therapeutic. I love to just mess around a bit while listening to an audiobook while on the train or during TV shows. I can't really be bothered to read patterns and/or count stitches. So 99 % of everything I produce is square and/or rectangular. So far, I have knitted scarfs and a cowl and various baby blankets and pretty much all I ever crochet is potholders. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions with regards to something I could attempt knitting or crocheting that's similar in idiotproof-ness.

I was thinking of maybe crocheting a bedcover, consisting of dozens of "potholders" but even the amount of coordination required to make all squares end up the same size sort of scares me. (Also, I have failed at this with a previous attempt.) Have you guys got any tips how to get this done more easily? Should I just start making random squares in all colours of the rainbow, in all sizes and patterns and just sew them together and it'll be beautiful no matter what because I made it and with cochet I could always add an extra row of stitches when sowing them together?

Tips of other rectangular/easy projects are welcome as well.

Seriously, who cares how complicated your project is? Make things that are fun for you to make! I've been doing a lot of triangular shawls/wraps lately. This was the first pattern I started with: http://www.scribd.com/doc/49143293/8-Hour-Shawl It looks more complicated than it is -- once you do a couple rows, you realize that you're really just repeating the same thing and increasing on each row, and then you just do that forever until it's the size you want. And if you're not sure what to do with it when you're done...people love to receive these as gifts.

My friends are very well stocked with potholders. It's about time I switched to shawls.

I'm working on that rainbow Bernat Mosaic shawl. I'm about half a ball in, using a K-hook, and I'm trying to decide now if I want to continue at this gauge or start over with a J. It feels a bit looser than I think I want it, but is it worth starting all over?? (Probably, if I'm sitting here hemming and hawing over it!)

Yeah, I say just got for it! Challenging projects are how your skills improve. :) Even if you make a bajillion mistakes, you'll learn from them.

You could see if there are any free patterns for similar blankets and see what they recommend in terms of process, organization, etc, and model it off those.
