Hello everyone!
I am planning on opening an upscale Vegan Italian restaurant in the East Village that will be open Fall 2012. Right now I'm looking for locations and finalizing a name. The top two names I have in mine are Verdura and Ortaggio. They both mean vegetable in Italian.
Let me know which you like better!

Ortaggio rolls off the tongue nicely. Very excited for you, good luck!

if it's verdura you're going to lose the latino-speaking vote-- it will provoke the usual "oh, rabbit food?" (verduras) vegan jokes. besides, ortaggio sounds nice.

Yessss! This is awesome news. I can't wait to eat at your restaurant! As far as the name, Mario Batali's Eataly on 24th & 5th ave already has an all-vegetable part called Le Verdure. http://eatalyny.com/eat/le-verdureAlso, I know nothing of italian but this is interesting: Quote: Is there a difference between "la verdura" and "l'ortaggio"? I believe verdura comes from verde and can be thought of as green vegetables (my mom uses it in reference to lettuce, endire, kale, chicory, etc.) Ortaggio comes from orto (garden) and refers more broadly to vegetables that are cultivated for eating. But in everyday spoken Italian, the distinction may not be this precise, and in English, you're probably fine translating both as vegetables, as fran06 suggested. http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=140743So I'd say it is a good thing that ortaggio refers to more than just green veggies.
