How often is whipping cream used in the British kitchen?

The thing is, we all know soyatoo, which is decent at best, but it doesn't really taste like real whipping cream, and the texture is way off. But have you seen Alpro's whipping cream, Airy & Creamy? It's frakkin' amazing! I tried it when I went back to Sweden over easter, and oh my gosh, it's like eating fluffy heavinly clouds, and the texture is exactly like real whipping cream. My omnivore dad (who hates everything vegan with passion) said they should have just gone with that for their desserts instead of making me my own, since it was impossible to tell the difference.
So I was jut wondering if whipping cream is a common ingredient. After emailing Alpro they said that they only go by what the supermarkets' are requesting. I'm basically thinking about weather or not it would be worth the hassle of contacting supermarkets about the product or if it's not something that would sell around here.

Thick cream is very common here! I've just emailed Alpro too. I'm desperate to try this stuff!

You can get coconut cream in supermarkets that I use in its place. It. Tastes. Like. Heaven.

Interesting. I've never tried that stuff, since I assumed it would be roughly the same as soyatoo and granovita and the supermarket around the corner doesn't stock it.

So Airy & Creamy isn't sold in the UK? I really want it!

I got the same response from Alpro, that they make their entire range available to all stores in Europe so to contact shops and say we want it...

I tweeted Alpro and they said they had no plans to release it here.

boo-urns! guess we'll have to resort to swapping with continental Europeans? unless of course it needs to be kept refrigerated.

ah well, i'm happy enough with the Soyatoo & Granovita stuff in the cartons.

Where are you getting the Granovita cartons from these days?

Good question - I haven't seen anything but the spray-can stuff in ages, and my hfs is pretty well-stocked (though they still haven't ordered my Amy's mac & cheese).

um... i haven't actually purchased any in the last year. i remember hearing they were out of stock for a while, but i thought that was over?

I think the Alpro stuff was in the fridge when I saw it. The gazillion kinds of oat whipping cream you can get here are just kept on the shelf. If I can be bothered to wander over to the other supermarket at some point I will check the packet. It's listed as refrigerated on goodstore.se though.

I have some Soyatoo Cocos Whip (Coconut topping cream) which I ordered from Veganstore.co.uk Haven't opened it yet. Has anyone tried it? What else can I use it for besides desserts? Has anyone tried it in coffee? Just for dipping strawberries in?

The Alpro cream does say it needs to stay refrigerated.

I recently tried the Blue Dragon Coconut UHT Cream, I kept it in the fridge and it solidified slightly so it kinda had the texture and thickness of whipping cream. I think at room temperature it's more like a single cream though.

Both Granvita and Soyatoo whipping cream disappeared from the shelves around the same time (were they the same product?), supposidly because it was impossible to actually whip it (true, but that didn't stop it being tasty). I emailed Soyatoo a while back but heard nothing back.

We've recently ordered Soyatoo Rice Whip and Coco Whip online. The Rice is pretty good - similar to the soya stuff. The Coco tastes strongly of coconut - it's like thick coconut cream. It's nice, but not as versatile.

It's a shame though - the Granvita stuff used to be in supermarkets and cost under a pound (I once bulk bought 2 trays when Sainsburys had them for 43p a carton). Veganstore's price on the new stuff is £1.89

The Granovita and Soyatoo in a box had production stopped because of some mysterious "production issue" (via email with Soyatoo) that I couldn't ever seem to track down (was just hoping that it wasn't something gnarly). I just Friday though, saw it back in stock (the Soyatoo) at our local HFS. My husband likes it, but I've not been able to eat it for awhile as it gives me a stomachache :( Interested to try the Alpro one.

I think it was something to do with changing the recipe to remove hydrogenated fats, which are/were used in some fake creams to make them thicker. (My mother told me this in a "Look, being vegan will kill you" moment. She then bought some of the fake cream and ate so much of it that she feels sick thinking about it)

I just bought a carton and it says no storing above 7°C.

So, wait, is Soyatoo in a carton good or not? They are selling it on veganstore.co.uk and I am thinking of putting an order for some other stuff in and I was thinking of trying it.

Soyatoo has a little bit of an aftertaste to it in my opinion, so it wouldn't fool anyone into believing it's regular whipped cream, but I wouldn't outright avoid it. I haven't tried the Alpro yet.
