It's a shocker. LNP in government is enough of a worry, but to have such a miniscule opposition... :-(
God knows I understand the desire to "punish" a state government — I live in NSW (not that I voted Liberal at the last election). I'm also really sick of the rhetoric (in the US/here/elsewhere) about "taking back our government" and so on. Sure, government should be accountable, but I actually don't think they should be just like "the man [sic] on the street". Have you met people on the street? I'm a person on the street, and I don't think I'm remotely qualified to be an MP. :-)

Well yeah. I keep meaning to look up how unicameral parliaments pass bills etc. In this election, wouldn't any upper house also have ended up with plenty of new conservative members? But I suppose some Senators (or whatever) would be only halfway through their terms. Hm. So probably this is worse, yes.

I think in an outcome like this, former ALP voters voting LNP might still vote ALP in the upper house as some form of insurance, but who knows.

Seriously people - if you haven't already - please sign the petition to say you support Civil Unions - the LNP Is hellbent on repealing, and they need to see there is community support for Civil Unions - who won't tolerate a repeal. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/mail ... qualityqldIt's my petition - so I won't spam or share your details, etc - only your name is visible - you don't have to sign up or get further emails. As simple as entering your name, email address, optional comment - hit submit. The Australian Christian Lobby has 100,000 signatures against same-sex relationship rights. Scary as heck.

Asking for advice from the Melbourne folks. Other than Vue de Monde (too late to book) are there any other really great fine dining places that will accomodate a vegan and do it well?
Also, anyone up for brunch or something in Melbourne on Saturday 26 May? I'd love to meet the awesome Melbourne PPK'ers.

Well, I'm totally in for brunch or something! Hopefully if that happens, I won't be as shy and weird and awkward as I was when I met joshua recently (Hi joshua! Sorry that I was weird and awkward!)
I have no idea about fine dining stuff, because it's not something I've done/can afford to do, and I'm not sure who I'd be able to ask here (my friends are in the same boat)..... I'll see if I can think of anything.

Good luck, Drossie! Supposed to be one of the best shows you'll ever see.
I already paid way too much for two tickets in a pre-sale, but what can I say? It's Prince! I've been a fan for over 30 years, and now my daughter is a huge fan, so we're going together and so excited!!

Anyone here know what the "milk products" in Samboy "atomic tomato" chips are? Just wondering.

They're $1.99 (half price) at Woolies til Wednesday, so stock up! Ooh, I missed this by a day. Bummer! Oh well, good for me not to have chips in the house at the moment. So catwoman, I managed to get my ticket for Prince's first Sydney show; way up not-quite-at-the-very-back, but that was always going to be the case buying a "cheap" (heh) ticket. Did you catch all the complaints about Ticketek? With the disclaimer that it's obviously not a true problem, it was very annoying to be kicked out of the site at checkout, then be stuck in a queue to get onto the site, then have the site crash altogether. I bought my ticket after about forty minutes! I do like that the sale was not very far in advance. It's nice not having to wait six months or something.

I did see all the comments about Ticketek, Drossie - sounds like a pain in the arse. I also heard about somebody lining up in person and being third in the queue, and still couldn't get a ticket! What's with that? I bought my tickets in a pre-sale and paid a bloody fortune. Just hope my crazy, impulse buy doesn't backfire. At least I won't have to wait long to find out - it's only four weeks away!

Hi folks!
I just moved from Adelaide to Canberra a couple of months ago. Back in Adelaide, we had a number of vegetarian/vegan friends, but we've only just settled in here. I was just wondering if anyone on this thread knows of any vegan meet-ups happening here, particularly any vegan playgroups? My three-year-old would love to meet other vegan kids in the area!

I know this is probably way too late, but I went to Cumulus Inc http://cumulusinc.com.au/ for my dad's 50th the year before last, and I was the only vegan among about 15 people. We had something like a ten course degustation (is that what it's called? haha) and they made ten separate little dishes for me...they were DIVINE. Most of the others were really jealous of my food in the end!

D. There's a Canberra vegan society kind of thing, I signed up for their emails a while ago but haven't gone to any events or anything. It all kind of seemed a bit more hippie-ish than I'm really into, but it could work for you! Also go to Au Lac if you haven't already, it's the only thing that Canberra has over Adelaide, vegan-wise. Way better than Vegetarian Delight. I'm from Adelaide too, I miss its vegan-friendliness, but Au Lac helps to ease the pain.

I've just sent an inquiry to their sister restaurant, Cutler & Co. Thanks for the recommendation. They look great and several reviews said they do great vegan options. I wouldn't ever have considered them without your post.

i know there will be recommendations somewhere in the thread but i can't find them. I'm currently in the gold coast and will be near brisbane from next friday - can people give me food places to go. I know there is Tian Ran here, is it good? What about Govindas? Any good vegan junk food around these parts, im not excited by healthy stuff, ha.

Guy - do you have Twitter? If so, drop me a line - @mattheworbit There is yum cha on the Gold Coast -Easy House, at Mermaid Beach - that is all vegan except for one menu item. IT IS AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! And "Mandala Organic Art Cafe" have amazing vegan pizzas, too.. Not a huge fan of Tian Ran. In Brisbane - get to The Green Edge for burgers, milkshakes, pies, amazing sundaes, cakes, etc, and Loving Hut in Mt Gravatt. Govindas is pretty terrible.
