Are your cats on the larger size? We usually travel with both cats in a single cat carrier but we also don't travel long distances, maybe 2 hours max.

My apartment did catch fire something like two years ago and the first thing I did was grab my cat, put her in her carrier and take her outside. I now have two cats and only one carrier and I have thought several times about how I need to get two in case of emergency, but I haven't done it yet. (If you keep up with posts in The Yard you might be aware that I have more urgent cat issues to attend to.) But maybe I should go buy one today.

I don't have any emergency plans but I do have a carrier for each cat. They wouldn't go into one together. If you are short on space like I am, get a soft carrier that you can fold up.

I don't see the point in having extensive emergency plans, though. So many things can happen and you have no idea where you'll be when it does. I guess maybe if I lived somewhere that had a specific threat than maybe? I mean, I've thought through escaping a fire in the building but beyond that no.

One of my cats is pretty big and the carrier is pretty small, there is no way they would both fit. It would be convenient to just get one that they can both fit into, they like cuddling and stuff.

Whoa, this is totally unknown stuff to me. I've never known anyone who had an emergency plan, but it does make sense. Maybe it comes from living in Europe and not being in a place prone to earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunamis, or whatnot, but there's always fire. And I was making fun of my boyfriend who has a rope near the balcony door in case he needs to escape... I guess he's the smart one.

I should have learned my lesson when I had to evacuate cats before. I was living in an apartment building that had a garbage chute. Someone thought it would be nice to put their burning casserole/pizza/whatever down the chute, which then set the dumpsters on fire. Everyone had to leave the building. At the time, I stupidly didn't have cat carriers. So I somehow managed to put two cats in a backpack.

Once, in the middle of an earthquake, my first instinct was to run to the stairs.

I... think I deserve to die?

In the zombie uprising, I am screwed because I live in the 'burbs of a big, over-crowded city. However, I plan on running to the nearest B&Q, because it has tools to rebuild society and sharp things to kumquat the undead over the head with. It is also near a supermarket and some restaurants that I could loot.

When smoke started coming out of my wall my first instinct was to call my dad and ask what I should do. When flames shot out of the wall, I realized I should probably call 911. Then they went away for a minute so I figured maybe everything was ok. When bigger flames shot out of the wall after that, I finally figured out that this might be an emergency. I think I deserve to die too. Also I of all people should have come up with some sort of emergency plan by now.

I had a great emergency plan until we moved house.... now I'm starting over again and so far am relying on our semi-subterranean downstairs toilet.
