Diamond is voluntarily recalling a growing list of pet foods. Check here for more information from the company. So far the brands include: 4Health Apex Canidae Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul Country Value Diamond Diamond Naturals Kirkland Signature/Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Premium Edge Professional Taste of the Wild Though not on the list at Diamond's website, Wellness food is also manufactured at the plant where the salmonella contamination occurred. You can read more about it here.

the bag we are just finishing up has a date of november 2012. and it's only 2 or 3 weeks old. so the december 9th bags are likely to be pretty new.

oh man! my 28 lb bag is already may 2013. (but we do get it from a store with high turnover that only stocks a few bags of vegetarian at a time. i can see a 5 lb bag hanging around for a while, now that i think about it, since it's cheaper by the lb to get the larger bag.)

My 5 lb bag is best by 23-May 2013. Probably depends a lot on where you get it/how much turnover they have.

i'm right in the city, but maybe the veg formula isn't in high demand. i'm not sure. or maybe it's that people are buying the bigger bags. i have nowhere to put a big bag of dog food, so i buy the little one. some sort of food container is my to-get list. i just haven't gotten around to it yet.

we have the iris container in 45 qt. (plenty of space for the 28 lb bags, with a bit of extra room for some leftovers from the previous bag.) i love it! it has the rollers, so you can easily move it wherever you want when completely full, and the latch is secure but ridiculously easy to open. http://storage.organizeit.com/storage/I ... 0Container(we have a smaller one to store our rice. :-)

We feed our ferals Kirkland's cat food and luckily missed the bags being recalled. I can't imagine how bad I'd feel if we'd given the poor babies bad food.

Also, Solid Gold recalled the following: Solid Gold WolfKing Large Breed Adult Food, All sizes, Best before December 30, 2012, Batch code starting with SGL1201A32X Solid Gold WolfCub Large Breed Puppy Food, All Sizes, Best before December 30, 2012, Batch code starting with SGB1201A31X The problem is salmonella contamination at the Diamond plant, which is more of an issue for humans. People can get it from handling the contaminated food, or from contact with infected pets. Infected pets may show no symptoms, so it's good to be extra cautious, just in case! This article has more info on the recall and tips on how to prevent getting salmonella from your pet.
