I started my period on vacation. Yay. I had to buy tampons since I forgot to bring my Diva Cup because the damn thing was so late I forgot about it. Tampons are the worst. The worst. I will bring my cup on all vacations from now on, even if I just finished my period. Seriously, being stuck on a plane with a scratchy, dry tampon string all up in your shiitake is the worst. I considered getting those Soft Cups from CVS, but didn't want to shell out the money for them. Should've. Dammit. DIVA, I LOVE YOU.

I'm going to attempt to clean my diva cup today. I have a huge mental block against putting it in a pot of boiling water that I will eat food out of later.

Even thought the internet has so much conflicting info on baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, vinegar, etc, I'm going to try a little baking soda and see if I still need to boil it. Mmmmm, spaghetti with miniscule menstrual blood residue!

I think I posted this earlier in the thread but there's no need to boil it, I just soak it in half Seventh Generation bleach, half water overnight. It gets mine sparkling clean every time. I think the 7th gen bleach is just hydrogen peroxide, I need to doublecheck though.

yep, i've never boiled mine. a mooncup-ful of hydrogen peroxide in a coffee mug full of water overnight does the trick! i've had mine for several years and that restores it every time. :)

you're welcome! there was no way i could eat out of a pot that I'd ever boiled my diva in - my mind just won't allow it to happen.

Dropscone asked months ago about using a cup after birth, and I have had no problem in terms of fit or leakage. I bought a large diva cup years ago (before having a kid), and it still fit me just fine for my first postpartum period.

The weird thing is that something seems to have happened to my cup, though. I find it really irritating now. I've scrubbed the hell out of it with soap and baking powder, boiled it, and soaked in vinegar, but nothing seems to help. It's like the cup is covered in something that irritates my vag, but it doesn't come off. My cup had fallen out of it's case and was floating around at the bottom of my medicine cabinet drawer for over 2 years, so I guess something must have gotten on it?

So, yeah, looks like it's time for me to get a new cup. I was thinking of trying a fleur cup because the large is about the same size as the large diva, but it's softer. I sometimes have urethra pressure issues with the cup, and I've read that might help. Anyone tried the fleur cup?

I just chopped chili with my bare hands and I know I will have to empty my cup before going to bed in a couple of hours. Oh heavens.

This may be too late for you, but if you slice a lemon in half and rub it over your hands, it'll neutralize the chili enzyme. Trust me, I've stuck my fingers in/near my eyes enough after chopping chilis and I know how much is sucks to still burn regardless of how much you've since washed your hands.

So this is my first period with a Diva Cup. It's day 3, and I haven't worn it consistently. I feel like it makes me have to pee more often. It's been easier to get in/out each time though. The first time was a nightmare. I'm not completely sold yet, but I'm not giving up either. It's kind of weird, so I guess it'll take an adjustment period. lolpun

if it's making you feel like you have to pee, you could try making sure it's inserted farther up, and/or making sure to "tip" it so that it's not pressing on your urethra (i.e., tip it so that it's pointed more toward your tailbone rather than straight up). it's a common problem and i find that both of those things have helped me.

I've only had mine for about six months and it's been leaking. It didn't leak at all for my first few cycles. I'm not sure what's changed. Any thoughts?

Creep-it gets easier and easier. It took me a couple periods to have it 'down' so to say.

Are you sure that the cup is opening up all the way? After I insert my cup, I have to run my finger up there along the rim to make sure that it's totally open, then I tug it a bit to make sure that I made a seal. About half the time, it gets stuck half folded.

Update on the fleurcup-- it's great! Only used it for a couple days, but so far, I think the soft silicone makes it super comfy. I like the solid stem with ridges too. I didn't like the hollow diva stem since it was annoying to clean out, and the ridges make the fleur a bit easier to remove. We'll see if this causes fewer urethra pressure issues.

Mine has worked wonderfully for 5 years and now it has started leaking. So frustrating!

Ha! I got mine on Christmas. My mom thought she'd be all sneaky and hide it in my stocking so they rest of my family wouldn't see, but I didn't particularly care and commented on it when I opened it. My dad asked what it was and I said, with a straight face, that it was a shot glass. I think my mom almost died that day, laughing.

So now I think of it as a shot glass for a vampire, too!

Has anyone ever noticed a weird gurgling when they use their cup? It's only been happening the past few months (and my cup is fairly new, less than a year old) so I'm not sure what has changed. When the cup is about full I'll feel the release of air bubbles, which must be breaking the seal because sometimes the gurgle is accompanied by a stream of blood. I guess it's a nice warning sign that it's time for me to empty my cup, but damn it feels weird. The leakage isn't so great, either. Any tips, tricks to share?

I don't have any experience with bubbles, sorry. I'm only on my second cycle with the diva cup and I have a weird question. What does the contents of your cup look like? Is it bright red or brown if you haven't changed in several hours? I'm in a weird postpartum situation and I don't know if everything is back to normal or not and since I didn't use the cup before I have no idea what it should look like.

For me, the color depends on how frequently I empty the cup. At the beginning and end when my flow is light, I only empty once a day and it's brown cause I guess it has had time to oxidize. Towards the middle, I have to empty my cup several times each day and it's a deep red.
