Who wants to go camping? Enjoy 2-3 nights at the lovely Lake Powhatan camp grounds close to Asheville, NC. Bring food because we get hungry. If you've never been, we can fill you in but a few of us have been going for the past 4 or 5 years.
My summer is a little limited as I am available late July/August. And generally, the official days are Friday to Sunday.
My proposed weekends are August 3-5 August 10-12 August 17-19
Weekends that are probably iffy July 27-July 29 (this weekend is the weekend of a large festival and Asheville tends to be crowded. Its doable but we often need to work around the festival) August 24-26 (This is pretty late in the season, I'm guessing Vantine might have trouble with this one) July 20- July 22 (this is my personally least preferred weekend as I'll be coming back from a trip a few days prior but it'd be doable)
Who wants to come? Any preference?

I will watch the dates but it is unlikely that I will make it this year. Y'all know I love me some Veganstock.

I know. Mr Nil wanted to know why veganstock wasn't being planned in Portland. I still have your flag too.

Your top three weekends should be fine with us. Later is a problem because the young Mr. Toby has to start middle school. *sob*

August is relatively open for me, barring any big work projects that prevent me from doing fun things. I can give a more definite yay or nay as we hammer out the plan.
I'd be psyched if we did something a wee bit further north like Shenandoah which we've talked about it in the past. Though I know that makes life way more difficult for Vantine. Lack of Rosetta's is definitely a serious con in comparing places.
We're about 16 hours out from Asheville.

Asheville is roughly 10-11 hours from me. 4 of those hours are spent getting out of this state!

I really need to drag my tail to Veganstock since I'm only about an hour from Asheville.

We'd go anywhere although most other places we'd go would be mostly just camping. Not a bad thing but we'd have to bring all our own food and even getting vegetables would most likely have to be done prior to entering the park as grocery stores will be quite a drive once in the park. Although in the northern and middle entrances, I've seen vegetable stands, complete with confederate flags and all.
It looks like the southern most campground in Shenandoah (Loft Mountain) is 860 miles from St Pete.
We'd just have to decide if we want a purely camping trip with no nearby city or if we want a mix of camping and city 'stuff'.
(And I'm completely biased because I'd totally make the extra drive to go to Rosetta's)

Linanil, I love you so much for being the one to get things moving with this! Your top three weekends are my top three as well. I'd prefer to stick to Lake Powhatan or somewhere in the Asheville area. I'm sad about the possibility of no pandacookie or monkeytoes, but excited by the possible return of poopiebitch and some new faces. And I can't wait to see the regular gang!

I could possibly make it if it's the August 3-5 weekend. I've never been camping before, though.

The only possible rough part is sleeping on the ground. We have a couple spare sleeping bags but a sleeping mat helps. The bathrooms are also about 50 feet away? Although in the middle of the night, the trees don't mind a little watering :). I know as a group, we have done a fair bit of walking in the past but Mr Nil is pretty limited right now. I'm slightly limited, especially walking up hills for an extended period of time.
We can also talk about it if there are specific concerns.
I think we can tentatively plan for the weekend of August 3-5 and see who else pops in for interest. We'll need 2, possibly 3 campsites based on current interest.

We usually go on a hike-y thing with Lycophyte. There is a lake for swimming. We eat and talk a lot. Not everyone participates in everything! JohnP is sometimes around and he mostly comes for the eatin'.
Who is going to kidnap the Panda?

Pizza with John is awesome.
Mr. Nil and I wil most likely stay for an extra day or two. I'm currently slated to do an online class but it's somewhat optional. I may need to go into town specifically to get online (and grab a latte or ice cream)
We generally don't stay out late as the gate closes at 10?

How does it usually work with little PPKers? My daughter is 5, would she be all alone or will there be other minis around? I think she would flip out if she managed to meet some other vegan kiddos.

Ok. Asheville it is! Sounds like the first weekend is in the lead right now. There is a high probability that it will just be me as I don't know if my gf can get the time off of work. If the Nil's have space and it our schedules can mesh up, I may ride part way with them. Otherwise, I'll figure out if it is do-able!

Yup! We'll be renting a van again! (until in a few years when we get a replacement car that can do long distance trips)
