Attention, people of the world, bananas that have been frozen and then blended/processed do not, I repeat do not, taste "just like" real soft serve ice cream. I won't argue whether or not it is delicious, or healthy, or whatever, but seriously, ya'll, it tastes like frozen mushed bananas. Which would probably be fine if we weren't all expecting it to taste like ice cream because the internetz insists that it does. Please, for the sake of vegan ice cream's name, stop getting peoples' hopes up and then crushing their dreams. It's cruel. Who is with me?

Agreed, it does not taste like soft-serve but like amazing delicious banana heaven. ALSO, while we're on PSAs, no blogger 'invented' this.

you didn't buy soft serve bananas, duh
(for those that don't know, ice cream and fruit were genetically spliced. it's amazing how far science has come!)

We need to say this about almost everything people make into healthier fare. No, your oil-free, fat-free, sugar-free, whole-wheat cinnamon rolls do not taste just like Cinnabon. Because they use all of the things you don't! Does that mean your stuff is automatically gross? No, but quit trying to sell it as a direct dupe of something else!

But the nice thing about banana ice-cream is that you can eat it while pregnant. Soft serve from the machines is basically a yucky listeria risk thanks to the bacteria living in the machines. http://www.livestrong.com/article/13484 ... pregnancy/

I thought this thread was going to be an announcement that frozen bananas can be blended/processed into soft serve "ice cream."

Totally. Sadly though, even if you have vegan soft-serve on a machine shared with dairy soft-serve, you still have the listeria risk. Which is not the case with banana ice-cream! YAY banana ice-cream! Mmmmmm delicious and listeria-free

Yes. Frozen bananas blended into a puree can taste pretty good, but they are still just blended, frozen bananas. If I want ice cream, there are plenty of great options with soy, almond, or coconut milk. Tofulish wrote: But the nice thing about banana ice-cream is that you can eat it while pregnant. Hooray for making things healthier, but lying to the masses does nothing to promote your cause. And ew to the listeria! I was never warned about ice cream when I was pregnant. I think sandwich meats and certain cheeses were the only things I was told to keep away from in regards to that.

i'm all for junk food, but have you had banana softserve made in a champion juicer? maybe it doesn't taste JUST like softserve, but it's totally got the right consistency. in a food processor? no way.
::edit:: wow, sorry i'm such a juicer snob!

I think in this instance, "tastes like" has just been mistakenly interchanged with "has a texture just like." I would never expect a plain, processed frozen banana to "taste" exactly like soft-serve, but it does have the right texture.

Also, please don't put stevia in anything and tell me it's delicious.
I was thinking the other day that it would be funny if a humorous cookbook was published entitled "The Worst Ideas Ever from Healthy Living Bloggers". I can already think of at least 20 inclusions off the top of my head. Waaaaay more if I spent the time to peruse the blogs I read because they entertain me with their awfulness.

I once tried a raw recipe that had this whole long intro saying "you are not going to believe it but everyone is totally shocked when they try it but they can't get enough.
"it's crazy but these agave marinated Jicama sticks taste exactly like McDonald's French fries"
What's really crazy is that I tried it. Not only did the weird raw marinated sticks taste nothing even remotely like French fries (maybe they kind of looked like fries that sat around in water) but they were gross and I wasted some perfectly good ingrediants. I am a chump.
That was many years ago and probably the reason I still haven't tried banana soft serve so thanks for confirming my suspicions.
