Forking Jubilee. I reckon I'm more over Queen glurge than the freaking Olympics. Which is saying something. It's going to be a summer of barely suppressed simmering rage for me.

I don't really give a damn one way or another, but as much as I disagree with the politics and BS the Olympics is still a guilty pleasure. I just wish it was in France.

I find the Olympics mishandled and annoying. The games themselves I have no issue with, it's the assumed obsessiveness and trying to whip up national pride that bother me. I like how much focus the Paralympic games are getting, compared to previous years. I think it's more important than the Olympics, ultimately.
Although there were talks of a street party for the Jubilee, which would be fun.

Is anyone else's workplace making them have a Jubilee-themed 'street party' in a disused boardroom?
(Our company is Dutch.)

(Our company is Dutch.) Good god no, though college is having some kind of Best of British theme, and red, white and blue things seem to be appearing everywhere.

i find it kind of hard to imagine that anyone actually gets as excited over a royal anniversary as the media suggests. but maybe i just roll with an especially unenthusiastic crowd.
that Saturday i have a friend's wedding, and that Tuesday i may be headed to Southampton to pick up cupcakes. dunno what we're going to do for the rest of the weekend.

Because that's what I read initially. Three times.

I want to burn every piece of Union Jack bunting. I want to shred every keep calm and carry on poster.

I really feel like I missed the memo with the Keep Calm meme-crap. I'm not just imagining that it was the unpublished poster designed to be distributed if the Nazis had made it into mainland Britain, am I? It really is a poster literally exhorting people to collaborate with an oppressive regime imposed by violence and without democratic legitimacy, isn't it? So on second thoughts...
If my workplace tried to insist on a street party, even in the bathroom, there'd be blood on the tiles.

I was actually wondering what that was about. People at my office think it's hilarious, and I just never got it. I thought it was just a British thing.

I don't capitalise on that slogan at all. #PeopleWillBuyAnything #KeepCalmThisIsGettingOldAlready

I hate all the keep calm crepe. It's naff.
Loads of beauty people on another board I post on are using it in promotions "keep calm and get spray tanned" etc. It's soooooooo amazingly lame.

i have a "keep calm and ask yoda" tshirt. but then again, i don't really give a toss either way about the jubilee shiitake, it's easy enough to avoid/ignore if you want to.

I am happy to have the days off so I can take Lee to Berlin (he is 40 this Saturday so we are heading off for the long weekend).
I think there is something in my head that says "Royal Event, get the hell out of Dodge". I was in SF for the Royal Wedding last year.
Mat.

My best friend in London said she is leaving the city this weekend and trying to escape the jubilee crepe. I'm glad I'm in Scotland - the only union jacks I've seen so far are in my English neighbours garden. I was quite tempted to go and pull down their lame-o bunting but since they've got 4 kids and just moved in, I thought that might be interpreted as a bit hostile :P
Also the Olympics - yawn. Again, all my friends in London have been ranting about it and the impending transport chaos that will ensue. The advice for commuters about how to deal with getting to work? Just don't go! Haha... Urgh.

Patrick Strudwick (one of my heroes, who actually thinks I'm his stalker, coz I keep telling him how lovely he is on Twitter) has some tips for those of us who aren't feeling the Jubilee or Olympics: click! Also get one of these badges:

However, I will be spending the Jubilee weekend with a bunch of queens - it's Birmingham Pride, and then on Monday I'm going to my gay friend's birthday party :-)

I always thought it was odd that a war slogan was now a popular marketing bandwagon to jump on :( I am keen to see how the transport copes around the Olympics, I expect chaos...
my office is having a theme day for the jublee, but its a new office with various non related teams so no one knows each other and its an excuse to get drunk, so I'll play along :)
