I don't know what to do. Her vet closed at 2 and will be all weekend. Emergency clinics are useless for exotics. And anyway, I just lost my job for destaffing last week and have $40 until I get paid next week. I'm so scared.

She has a bloody injury on her cere. I didn't notice it; it's all dried. I washed it and cleared most of it, but her breathing is weird, with a blip blip in her throat. She is acting fine, but birds will.

It seems she has a small piece of skin missing from her head. I don't know. Hard to tell.

I'm afraid she got blood in her lungs.

I'm so scared.

Can you call the nearby emergency clinics and ask if they have anyone on staff with bird knowledge? Or do you already know for sure they don't?

Oh and if you go to an emergency clinic and don't have money you can most likely do care credit.

Are there any vet schools or universities nearby you could call? I went to school at an agricultural college and I know they had a help line.

Yes, care credit and call around and specifically ask if anyone has bird knowledge!

Some bird/wildlife sanctuaries have access to specialists on call, including bird specialists.

If the above excellent recommendations don't fit - it may be an option.

I'm sorry to hear about Molly. The suggestions that have been made are good ones. Definitely care credit, if you don't have an account already they'll approve you instantly. Call ER hospitals like others said and see if anyone has exotic bird knowledge. You never know. Other places, like sanctuaries might have someone on staff too. I was going to say the vet schools too. I know I'm just repeating what others said but just want you and Molly to know you're being thought of and I hope things work out. Good luck!

Edit to add that some vets have an emergency on call service. I guess you would know if yours did but maybe there is another vet with knowledge of exotics that has on call service. Just a thought...

I just found out about care credit, but you have to app,y I. Advance. I am waiting now. They took Molly off.

Thank god they take AmEx. I got $100 gift card last weekend for doing a focus group that I was saving for nail polish. Thank god I did that. It will cover most of this visit if the charges are just basic.

My mom will help as long as I can cover the bill today since the clinic is two hours away. I made it in an hour and a half.

Waiting now for them to being her back. I'm so scared. She is so tiny and fragile.

They want to keep her overnight and do an x-ray. $1200 estimate!

I'm bringing her home; she is breathing ok it seems. Waiting for her.

Ok she is ok. She is ok. I was able to see her while they are doing the fluids and she just gave me the most evil pissed off Molly look ever. She can't be doing too badly to pull of that much attitude.

She is apparently not cooperating. Hah.

I'll keep her in a little travel cage on a hearing pad tonight to make sure she rests, and I have pain meds and antibiotics. I'll follow up with her vet Tuesday.

I don't trust these people; they are a money machine and want to do dozens of silly tests. I'm a worried mamma but not an idiot.

Sorry for all the drama; I was majorly freaking out. Nobody else was home.

Molly is doing ok. I look and see Horrible Headwound Harry, but she just got a nasty scrape that took off a layer of skin above her cere. She lost a bit of blood for a tiny bird, but she got fluids and I have pain meds and antibiotics to give her. The clinic would only administer if she stayed overnight.


On the way home she started chatting a little and she ate a bit, so I can relax. The awful breathing sound was actually cleared up by the time we saw the vet. I could hear it while driving, but then she was ok.

That was sure a scare. I need a big glass of wine.

I stopped and got her some blueberries, so she is happy. Or will be until I give her meds in an hour.

having a beloved pet that is sick/hurt is so scary so no need to apologize!!!

i do the same thing. my husband has talked me down off the ledge many a time about my pets.

Whew. I'm glad things are looking up. I was scared to read the updates in this thread.

I'm glad she's ok! Poor you and Molly, that must have been awful. I hope the meds are going well!
