So we have two cloth octopus cat toys that were a present. They got pretty filthy, so I washed them today. The water I washed them in turned bright bright yellow. We kept changing out the water, and they kept giving off this bright yellow substance. I would think that it was dye, but one toy is blue and was giving off a ton of this bright yellow stuff. Has anyone had this experience with cat toys? Are these safe to give back to my kitties?

Were they stuffed with catnip or anything? Can you open them and see what is inside? That sounds strange.

I started to tear one open, but then decided it wasn't even worth satisfying my curiosity, and threw them out. My grandmother will buy them more toys soon, and they'd rather play with a bread tie and some dead leaves anyway.

There isn't any catnip in the toys. There's crinkly material in the legs and a ball in the head, but the color seems to come from both parts. Maybe I need to dig them out of the trash to satisfy my curiosity after all.
