I discovered a new vegan cheese in the health food store last saturday! It's rice-based mozzarella, they have a creamy one and a hard (sliceable) one. The hard one melts on pizza.

Oo! Wonder if they have it up here. I think the last time I bought vegan cheese was when I first moved here. It was so expensive!

How is it? They're selling it online in the States now and I was thinking about trying it.

Vegan Essentials is giving this away for free when you purchase above a certain amount from them, I believe. So if you were already planning an order and wanted to try this, now would probably be a good time!

I just found both varieties at the Biomarkt in Amsterdam! Will be trying the hard cheese on pizza tonight!

I also bought some at Biomarkt today. I reminds me very much of the flavor of Mozzarella Cheezly, only softer.

Verdict: texture 10/10, flavor 3/10. :( I was really disappointed because when I took it out of the packaging, it looked and felt nice, but I took a little nibble and it had a really strong chemical taste, like plastic. I hoped this would be improved by melting, so I plunged ahead and made the pizza. It melted really nicely, better than any other vegan cheese I've tried on pizza, but the plastic taste remained. The weird thing is that looking at the ingredients, I can't imagine what would make it taste that way. I'm almost wondering if the taste leached from the casing it comes in. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I'm not going to test that theory. I'm throwing out half of the package uneaten, and going back to Cheezly/Sheese on my pizza. Bummer.

we made a little tomato/mozz salad yesterday with it, and it was just okay. i didn't get the plastic taste, but it was just kind of blah. we still have half left, might try melting it on something eventually.

I've seen this in the health food shop near me. I'm kind of hesitant to buy it, there is also a brand of cheese they are selling called Veganic pizza cheese. But I am not sure whether to buy it (mozzarisella) as I am kind of expecting it to be pretty tasteless like rice milk. And I get pretty damn sad when I have a pizza that has is covered in a horribly bland cheese ( such as tofutti).

I found some in my local hfs recently. It's pretty good, a bit bland though, we added some vegusto along with it for a bit of extra flavour. It melted pretty well on my pizza.

It seems to be getting rave reviews - the ones recently on Veganoo made me want to try it again, because when I tried it I didn't like it at all.

Yeah I saw the review on veganoo and veggies. Puzzling because looking at the images it looks almost runny for a pizza cheese in the pictures. What was it you didn't like about it? What cheeses do you guys normally use for your pizzas (if you do)? I have mozzarella cheezly waiting in the fridge but I am also tempted to branch out, but I don't want to waste a heap of food and money. I've tried some bad cheeses before, like Vegerella. That has got to be the worst one I have tried. I may have just aswell eaten the packaging it came in.

I really loved it! I had it at a restaurant (Amico Bio) in London. We had it on Pizza and as part of an antipasto. I like that the flavor was mild, it went well with all of the strong flavors of everything else, and the texture was nice both melted and cold.

I think I may have tried it on the wrong things, or in the wrong way. I generally find that I need to give vegan cheeses a few goes, because I need to figure out whether they work best grated or sliced and at what temperature to cook them. I can't remember what it was exactly, but one way I tried it it just disappeared altogether except for a greasy bit of residue.

Wow, my experience was so different! I loved how it wasn't greasy or gloopy, unlike some American vegan cheeses. I didn't know what it was, I thought it was a cheese they made in the restaurant, so I was surprised to find it was packaged. Like a Folger's commercial.

Haven't tried Mozzarisella yet, but holy crepe, get that Veganic stuff if you can! I got a sample pack of it through my work and it's awesome, it melts super well. It's a bit on the mild side, flavour-wise, but I just loved it in toasted sandwiches and if it comes to any shops near me I'll be buying them out on the regular cos it seems like it's gonna be fairly cheap? Cheaper than Vegusto anyway, which would be my first choice if money was no object.

I ordered some recently and ended up getting way too much because it was free postage over a certain amount. It's really good (especially the smoked one, which I actually think tastes more like real mozzarella than the normal version) but I need to use it all up by the 28th. TELL ME WHAT TO MAKE, PLZ.
