Totally! It's a great step. Those tacos sound awesome. I'm so impressed that they actually made a full VEGAN menu rather than a vegetarian one.

There's a pop-up donut shop on Carrall St. called Cartems that has a vegan chocolate donut (cake, not yeasted, but still!). It's amazing!

Hey, party people! I'm new(ish) to Vancouver and new to the PPK forum. So, I've been sort of lazily skimming through the Vancouver forum, I just wanted to get a somewhat up-to-date list of some good places to go around here whether it be farmers markets, restaurants-- anything, really. And uh, how does a gal like me, who is going through a bit of a quarter life crisis meet people around here? My boyfriend says craigslist is too creepy and to find someone with common interests.

I'm in the Mt Pleasant area on Main. I think that's what it's called.

My favourite restaurants are Wild Rice, Cafe Kathmandu, and Grub. Nuba is great but quality varies. La Taqueria is amazing even with only two vegan options.

The Vancouver vegan scene has come a long way in the past couple of years! I don't live there anymore, but some awesome people (including ppkers!) organize events such as Vegan Prom. Be sure to check out the Vancouver Vegan Brunch. http://www.veganmischief.com/brunch/

Oh and you are living in an awesome area.

Went to chau last night and no meat. Who the heck is posting crepe information on happy cow about such a great restaurant?

In other news I highly recommend the black bean and yam tacos at the small taco truck (corner of Dunsmuir and Burrard) around the corner from Tacofino truck. Tacofino is good but these tacos are better. They know what vegan is too!

Oh and the Henessey (sp?) lounge on Broadway and Manitoba has Gardein chicken strips if you're so inclined to see some improv on Sunday nights.

In North Van head to Save -On-Foods or Price mart for bulk gluten - it's in their bulk bins labelled 80%Gluten! No help on the tempeh starter I'm afraid...

By no means is it cheap but Yew at the Four Seasons is unbelievably incredible. I had the truffle mac & cheese and tacos. My father had the quinoa salad with seared tofu and vegetables. Between Yew and Coast we've finally got some high end chefs who actually care about making delicious food for vegans and omnis.

I tried Calabash bistro last night for the first time, we shared the Chana Salad and Veg Special, which was two vegetable skewers in a spicy sauce, seasoned rice, and a coconut curry. It was all really good but the portions seemed small for the price (the special was $16) but I guess that's Gastown for you. Overall I was pretty impressed though, it has a nice vibe, I would take non-vegan friends there.

Haven't been but the city just keeps piling on with veg locations.

oh nice, I'll be checking that out!

though, I really wish there were more 'nice' options in 'cooba. I like nice dining. doesn't have to be upper-tier/fancy, but it seems most veg* options are toward the lower end. who wants to open a restaurant, and I'll tell you everything you're doing wrong?

Joshy, come for a vegan meal with me in Victoria. There are way more finer vegan meal options for such a small city.

That burger place looks okayish.

Acorn will be opening soon and should be fancier - at least I can only assume it will be if the chef worked at Noma.

As for Tera burger, none of the burger patties are vegan, they all have cheese in them but you can have a tofurky slices sandwich, among some other options.

Also Joshua, if you haven't been to Yew then I highly recommend going there, numerous vegan options for lunch and dinner and fairly fancy.

Kits location of Nuba is a classy joint, and the place is massive! Two thumbs up! But when isn't Nuba two thumbs up I guess.
