But seriously, don't be bitchin' where the next post you're on about how forkin' fabulous that frickin beef burger at the Tikki Bar was. BARF. This!!! Part of me really wants to just yell at people like that. This one girl used to come in to my old job and she's just awesome - she volunteers at the animal shelter, she helps them raise money and she fosters abused animals while looking for permanent placement for them. But she'd sit there and tell me about all the horrible things that are done to animals and then eat wings and a burger for dinner. It sucks that there's that disconnect, but part of me just really hopes that one day it'll click for people like it did for me. But yeah, a big part of me is still biting my tongue.

Yes yes yes. I have two people who I really like, and who I really admire on my FB feed who are always posting this gross stuff ...and I am starting to feel like I need to hide their posts. It bums me out. Maybe I will try writing to them. But I'm not sure if i know either of them well enough to do that.

This has been bothering me a lot lately. My feed is full of graphic pictures and descriptions of animal abuse going on in Poland and Ukraine (the European football championships are being held there atm). It makes me feel helpless and sick, and there's nothing I can do about what's going on there. Except for sign petitions.

It would be great if Facebook implemented a feature that would hide graphic content until you clicked on it. I think YouTube has something like that. I'm thinking of times when the thing being shared is Facebook content, like a photo & caption someone uploaded (so it doesn't make sense to link to it). That way people could post that crepe and I wouldn't have to look at it.

The page took it down and threw up some half-assed apology. And comments about how people lie to themselves and can't handle the truth like i'm Tom Cruise* or something.
And I repeat: fork you. I don't need to look at a bunch of pictures of suffering animals to be more vegan or a better vegan or whatever you think. I usually don't cover my eyes/ears and start telling people to fork off, but no. Forcing me to look at pictures of dead animals, even for a second, isn't something i'm willing to debate about if it's cool or not. It's not.
*this joke is probably too old.

I have definitely unliked pages over that because I didn't want it in my feed. I think it's a perfectly reasonable reaction.

This all boils down to the fact that people think FB is there own personal soap box. It's not! I just hide people who annoy me and move on.

Today someone posted a picture of a dead dear with a party balloon stuck on it (it was a on the side of the road, so more than likely the deer got hit)...I was appalled, I was even more appalled when someone wrote "loled really hard"...I don't find this type of stuff humorous.

That is also gross, and I hope you unfriended them so hard that your desk shook.

Exactly. Just last night, I was scrolling through my FB newsfeed and my partner said, "What?" because I had apparently made a wincey face and noise at a photo someone had posted of a rat having some hideous test conducted on it. This person (not a PPKer) genuinely means well, but she is always posting stuff like this (much of it really graphic, on a par with Earthlings), and I'm basically ready to hide her because I just can't cope with randomly coming across stuff like that without warning.

On a similar note, I'm friends with a few rescue groups on facebook and they post pictures of abused cats and dogs with horrific stories and I think I just need to unfriend them all because it bums me out so incredibly much. I can't save every animal. I can't. I'm doing the best I can. I don't need those images of cruelty thrown in my face.

Oh god animal tested beagles get thrown around all the time. It's like seeing pictures of your family horrifically tortured.
I hide or unfriend anyone that does anything that upsets me instantly. The list gets longer all the time but mostly it's tortured animals or weird pictures of women.
Pretty soon there will be nothing left in my feed!

I don't have any vegan fb friends, so I don't get the graphic farm animal pics, but a lot of my friends work with rescuing dogs and cats and they will repost horrible pictures of abused/neglected/dead animals. I don't know what they are expecting these pictures to do, since most of their friends are already trying to help rescue animals. Earlier this week, I had a really tough day at work. We had to euthanise a kitten that we had been caring for round the clock trying to save. I got home all depressed, opened up fb, and there was a picture of a dead pit bull. The caption said something like "rescue came too late for this dog". It hadn't been posted by any of my friends, but one friend had commented on it, so it showed up in my feed. I could not deal with dead animal pics that day, and for some reason, fb wouldn't let me hide that particular story. I was crying and felt like I was going to puke. I ended up having to use adblock to block the image, because I just could not look at that in my newsfeed every time I scrolled down. Maybe I should just start spamming my friends with adorable, happy animal pictures and they'll see how much nicer those pics are.

Well, I guess, whether one perceives something as an update/randomness or 'preachiness' rather depends on one's opinion of what the person is posting. Maybe? Like, if someone was linking to news articles or whathaveyou about something I believed in I might think that was awesome, but if they were all about stuff I hated it might come across to me as shitty and preachy, even if technically there is no real difference between the two actions, yaknow?

The thing that REALLY burns my biscuit are the omnivores involved in animal rescue who are constantly posting photos of horrible abuses of domestic animals. Graphic, bloody pictures. Going on about how we have to stop this awful cruelty.
Then they go to Burger King and chow down, or slap a steak on the grill.
It's really all I can do not to blow up at them. Seeing the pictures just makes me so sad and I wish people would stop posting them because I AM AWARE, thankyouverymuch...I do not need to see this picture every 3 days to remain aware.

It's all good though cause I have the option to hide or defriend if I so chose.

yes! so many people i'm actually friends with have been blocked or unfriended because of gross animal torture porn or fat shaming nonsense. people get their undies in a big wad over it, but i don't need to get annoyed every friggin time i open facebook.

The people who do this are always so sanctimonious when they "apologize." And it's not even an apology because it's about how sad and pathetic the people are who were hurt/offended/what have you. Wanting to view images like this does NOT make someone somehow better than those of us who do not. I got your back, MBM.
