Who has a favourite granola? Preferably one I can buy from Sainsburys, The Co-Op or in a HFS? I'm trying to find one that's quite sweet & only has oats, raisins, chocolate &/or hazelnuts! It would be a plus if it's not insanely expensive!

I'm going to be the wanker who suggests making your own.

I'm happy to do that if I can't buy any but I don't like cereal & I'd rather spend the time I have to cook making something I want to eat. Unless it'd work out way cheaper? Most of the recipes I've seen so far are maple syrup / brown rice syrup / agave based & I think it'd end up costing the same!

For what it's worth, I was also going to suggest making your own. (I've never done it, but recipes I've glanced at make it look really simple, so I'm advising you to do something I've never done. Who's the wanker now?)

In all seriousness I spent ages looking for decent granola here that I liked but I gave up and started making my own when I want it (sultanas can suck it). Jordans did one I liked years ago (pecan) but I've no idea if it's vegan or not?

But I can't actually make it because if there's cereal around you know I'll eat it all in one go. Can you order some from the continent somewhere? That stuff you brought back from somewhere once was ace.

Those Dorset brand things would be my starting point.

Yes, I've not had the granola but their porridge sachets are really nice.

Lizi's belgian chocolate granola is chocolatey and has hazelnuts, but it tastes like dirty cardboard. Would that be an issue?

I was going to recommend the Dorset ones. In Waitrose you can get a little selection pack of single serve ones, so you can see which ones you like the best.

I quite like that one. At the risk of being Douche Number 3, Nigella Lawson's Peanut Chocolate Granola from Feast is the best one I have had. Do you want me to bring some to the picnic for you to try? Just to clarify, it's a recipe not a brand.

I priced up making granola the way I like it a while ago, and it turned out at about £5 a batch. Mine had oats, maple syrup, roasted hazelnuts, chocolate chips and sultanas in, bulked out with seeds and tvp. I balk at the the prices for granola in supermarkets, and was disappointed that making it at home wasn't much cheaper. It also doesn't last long, as I cannot walk past it without scoffing a handful. I have never found a shop bought one that I liked. Ergo... I am too cheapskate to give myself granola too often.

100%. Hannah Kaminsky told me to do it. A bit of apple juice and syrup and Bob's your uncle, cracking granola.

I'm thrown by the tvp thing.

I have made the same one, complete with TVP and it was ok but not good enough to make me want to make it again. I make the Nigella one a lot.

Sainsbury's have just brought out some new granola own brand (its called 'crunchy cereal' or something ut its granola). At least one flavour (strawberry) is vegan.

I used tvp when I ran out of digestives for a digestive crust in a boston cream cake pie recently and it's worked really well. I'm in the middle of making vegan white chocolate toblerone and tvp is hiding in that too. Assuming there's any sort of actual protein in tvp, it also helps convince me that puddings are slightly healthier.

It just sounds like most vegan thing ever.
