Peta has moved Revlon to their "do test" list, because Revlon has been unresponsive regarding testing of their products for the Chinese market. Revlon own Revlon, Almay, Sinful Colors, Mitchum, Charlie fragrances, Jean Nate fragrances, Ultima II, and Gatineau skincare. Peta has a letter you can send Revlon asking them to disclose whether they are testinh in China. https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?c ... on&id=4179Everything sucks. Elf foundations break me out, the completely vegan brands are too expensive, and Almay was perfect. Rage.

CVS make a store brand version of the makeup remover pads, but according to Veggie Beauty their testing policy is ambiguous now. I know Walgreens test, but last I heard Target and Walmart don't do maybe see if they have generic versions.

Where is this going to end? More and more good companies get bought out by bigger companies and then those corporations go and sell in China and it all goes to hell. What's next? Zoya? Orly? Know what? I've had a bad feeling ever since I found out that WnW got Fergie as a celebrity spokesperson. I bet they are the next ones to bite the dust.
*end of rant*....for now.

I've been using Mitchum and Almay deodorants for the past few years. I'm going to try the liquid crystal again when I run out. If that doesn't work I may just do it up middle ages style and wear way too much perfume to try to cover my stink (kidding....mostly).
eta I agree with the WnW fear. I'm watching them like a shark. I was using a lot of stuff from NYX too, and then saw on Veggie Beauty that NYX are looking for a Chinese distributor. I'll miss their pore filler, the one that I started using once I couldn't buy my Clinique pore filler anymore because of the stupid Chinese government.

mother hubbard. I think officially every single makeup item I've used on my face in the last 6 1/2 years is now sullied from this whole China fiasco. superherogirl wrote: Forking sucks. I don't know if you've tried Ban, but it's accidentally vegan and works for me. I'm sure I'll find out soon why I shouldn't be buying it.

Ban are owned by Kao, who are based in Japan. I've been told that Japan requires animal testing, but the only website I can find that says that is UK based and also claims the US requires animal testing for new ingredient which I'm 99% positive isn't true, so for now Ban sound ok-ish. But more importantly, do we require testing for new ingredients? Because if we do, then I don't even know. I'll just take to bed forever and ever. link that says US requires testing of new ingredients http://www.animalaid.org.uk/h/n/CAMPAIG ... s/ALL/283/

Taking to bed forever and ever, imo, sounds like a plan. Been staring at my Sinful stash and feeling like crying.

They insist on a fixed cut off date for new ingredients meaning that the cruelty free companies on their list have agreed not to use ingredients made after a certain date in their products. I don't know what I'll do without Mitchum, it's literally the only deodorant that's ever worked for me (even pregan) and without it I mayaswell embrace my hippy side, grow back my pit hair and give up wearing deodorant entirely!

See, I don't think that link is right regarding US laws. Initially I assumed it was wrong because I've never heard a US vegan or animal rights organization agitate against that type of law, but I just found the FDA website on animal testing in cosmetics and it confirms that we don't require animal testing on cosmetic ingredients (we actually don't require any testing on cosmetics, animal or otherwise, nor do we require FDA approval for cosmetics, is how I read it, which doesn't surprise me because we're generally frighteningly lax about consumer protections). http://www.fda.gov/Cosmetics/Productand ... 072268.htmWhich brings me back to my initial lack of any information regarding Japan and animal testing, since the link was wrong on US policy. So Ban might be ok, despite being owned by Kao.

I always though japanese companies were a no-no also because of testing requirements but I don't know if that is actually true. I've avoided Nars for years because they're owened by Shiseido and also avoided Shu Umera. I'd be super excited if those companies were ok! I need to research a bit more.

That sucks so bad! Mitchum is the most effective deo I've ever used. I'm sure I'll find an alternative but it's just so unnecessary.

I had heard that about Japanese companies as well, but the only place I could find saying they require testing was the same website with false information about US laws. So I dunno. Japan has some incredible nail polish, so I'd love to find out. I have no idea how though, except emailing Leaping Bunny or Peta to see if they know.

FORK!!!
Where will this end??? I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact that Urban Decay is off the list and I'll never have good eyelashes again, now I won't have Mitchum so I'll be stinky and sweaty, too. This is going to be a stinky, smelly, raccoon-eyed, eyelash-less summer and I want to cry.

oh, cvs. i wrote a tumblr post about the whole debacle here. i e-mailed cvs, and here is the response i got yesterday: "Dear [joyfulvegan],
Thank you for your e-mail regarding your inquiry. I am happy to respond. At this time, the CVS brand products are not tested on animals. If you have any further questions or comments, please contact us at 1-800-746-7287. We are available Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 7:00pm, EST. Have a great day!
Andrea CVS Customer Relations"blah, okay, so AT THIS TIME they do not test, but it sounds like they may start testing in the future? walgreens is on peta's DO TEST list, so i won't use their brand of products. i wrote to rite aid, my other local drugstore, and here is their reply: "Jennifer,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Rite Aid does not pay, nor do we test our products on animals.
Carrie Fry Rite Aid Customer Support cfry@riteaid.com"i think the awkwardly-worded "rite aid does not pay" phrase was in reference to my question regarding 3rd-party testing. anyway, hope this is helpful. i'm so heartbroken about all of this.

Well the 'do not pay' could be that they may use data from companies that have tested. I swore I read that in the US (and in EU), that any new chemical does have to be tested on animals. If you put a bunch of known chemicals together, then it doesn't. I could be wrong and maybe the laws have changed.
There are companies that create chemicals and sell those chemicals though. They may have tested the chemical themselves and included that data to their buyers but that doesn't mean the buyers tested.
The good news though is that most cosmetics are mix of the same old stuff.
Obviously it can be frustrating but as was mentioned in the Urban Decay thread, don't work yourself up trying to be perfect. Do the best you can with the given information.

yeah I'm glad to hear at least that CVS still doesn't test right now. I guess I just have to remember to email them periodically to check up about it and keep my eye on things.
