my new kitten!

on tuesday, my friend found a kitten in a parking lot off of a 6-lane highway. she was hiding under a car and covered in fleas. poor thing. he took her to his vet (which was close by), and through a series of spur-of-the-moment decisions, i took her home to live with me later that day!

she has been quarantined so far, while her fleas got dealt with. they seem to be pretty much gone now (she gets one more treatment in 2 weeks to deal with the aftermath of eggs hatching). later today she has a vet appointment to check for feline leukemia and FIV, and if she's clear, i'm going to start slowly introducing her to pippi (my other cat) tonight. i'm nervous and excited about how that will go.

i named the kitten nora. she's 3 months old (says the vet) and super sweet, but also super feisty. i haven't lived with a kitten in 10 years, and had forgotten about how much energy they have – whoa!

but, here is what you have really been waiting for:

i think she's a maine coon (at least partially). her ears crack me up – they are SO HUGE for her head, and those tufts are ridiculous. her whiskers are also SO LONG. and she has huge feet. i'm in love. <3

i hope the kitties become best friends too! that seems a bit unlikely, since their energy levels are so different (my other cat is somewhere between 13-15 years old). i think it's likely that the nora will try to play with pippi a lot and pip will get annoyed. what i am really hoping is that pippi's maternal instincts come out and she takes on a mama role.

This totally happened with my kitties Neko and Kaylee! Neko is only a couple years older, but she has always been, you know, the star. And she's totally fixated on me; it's as if I'm the mother cat and she's my baby. So naturally she was super vexed when we brought Kaylee home. But Kaylee is cute and very cuddly, and soon enough Neko was washing her and never letting her out of her sight. Even now, when I'm cuddling Kaylee, Neko will often call for her to leave me and come to her instead. And she will, since obviously cats are a lot more important than humans. ;)
