It guess worse. I read that healthy food for the Olympian athletes was to be provided by the sponsors, namely MacD's and Coke. Fast food healthiness

A bit strange that they tackled him and instead of moving him away from the torchbearer (though the boy wasn't very near him or heading towards him as far as I can see), flung him down in front of a moving car. But I suppose it's very difficult to have control over where you throw someone when they come up unexpectedly.

I think governments are paranoid about safety.
I've heard stories about wanting to put up rocket launchers on top of apartment buildings, just in case terrorists might want to fly a plane into an Olympics game.
Like if shooting down a plane above London with a missile won't give damage to the people on the ground....

I assume that the planes will be vaporized leaving no traces of debris, as they have been during other operations (excuse my skepticism). The tenants are proposing legal action to stop the missiles being planted on the tops of their buildings. Sadly I doubt they'll be successful.

<TBO> I'm pleased that here in Scotland we seem well away from it all. I'm just waiting for the announcement that everyone who's unemployed in Glasgow will be forced to attend the footie matches at Hamden to make up the crowds, apathy here? Yes!

Well, I live by Hampden and they've erected the most big-ass fuck-off CCTV cameras you have never seen right on my street. I'm also half-expecting to get a dawn-raid bundling me into a back of a van to be forced to watch this football bollocks that only 5 people have been ridiculous enough to buy tickets for...

In some quarters there seems to be some criticism that the people employed for security are unemployed - "some workers had been unemployed for months or years"
What do they really expect, people who are employed to hand in their notice so they can work for some crepe security company on 12 hour shifts for crepe money for all of a couple of weeks or so?
Where did they expect to find crack security people in such numbers for such a short contract, and those that they have employed know that it's just a two week gig and are hardly going to be motivated beyond the bare minimum

from the mouths of Spam....
in anticipation of the world cup, our city has just installed security cameras EVERYWHERE. the rumors are they will be used for remotely-issued traffic tickets before and after the cup [you! talking on the cell phone in your car! $500 ticket!] i'd be nervous if we had enough police to do the kind of interventions mentioned ^^, but we don't. Maybe by ^cup time we'll have more cops, if we don't throw all the money into stadium-sized money pits....
