In case anyone is reading this thread and getting stressed about not buying the right toys/spending too much money, our favorite favorite thing at 19 months is.... laundry basket-ball! The game goes like this: find a thing that is light enough to pick up (block, shoe, book, spoon), approach the laundry basket, throw the thing, shout "WHOA!" Occasionally get into the laundry basket and throw all the things out. HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT.

Laundry baskets are the best! At ~9 months, Vi's favorite thing was to sit in the laundry basket while I pushed or pulled her around in it shouting that she was the grand marshal of the baby parade. It's also good forward and backward walking practice to have them hold onto it while you push or pull the basket.

Malka also loves laundry baskets and figuring out how to get everything out of them.

Heh. Another laundry basket fan here. I usually have two baskets when we fold laundry, just so F can have one to do with as she pleases (often taking all of the laundry pegs from the bag and putting them in there). Also doubles as a nice drum when turned upside down, a boat for singing Row Row, a place to roll around marbles, and of course something grand to put on your head.
