A milestone: neighbors picked GG up from camp and then he came in and hung out BY HIMSELF until I got home 20 minutes or so later. It's something we've talked about before. He was so blasé about it. No big deal.

I got a little teary eyed when Zola started wearing undies and riding a bike (with training wheels) instead of a trike. But then she started pissing on the carpet.

Tomorrow we take TRS (GG) to sleepaway camp! He'll be gone for 6 days!

And while I think we can all use a break from each other, it's still... difficult.

It's not made any easier by our having to organize and label the "special" food he'll require. Mrs. Face talked with the cook and planner, and while they do make some provisions for vegetarian kids and they're happy to have us bring anything else that's necessary, it's still a pain.

Someone should start vegan camp! Surely there are enough vegan kids on the West Coast to make it happen...

I kind of want to start a vegan scouts group when V is a little older. We'll make our own @#$%ing cookies to sell and they will be homemade and 5000% better!

I am laughing uncontrollably at this. And I need a laugh. Thank you <3

First day of 5th grade:

Shae gets a paycheck now. A PAYCHECK. How did this happen.

Do 5th graders bring laptops to school now? I don't know if I can handle that.

I think that's a binder, mooo. One of those zip up kinds.

It's a binder. No room in his knapsack, what with his big, sturdy pencil box and lunch and stuff. We're still working out the system.

Wait—a paycheck? I am out of the loop.

Husband still hangs shiitake on me about my sookfest when my 8yo was a baby. I was all "waaah he's so grown up now, he's wearing a bib".

He's refereeing soccer now. Had to fill out a W9 and gets real, actual paychecks! I swear his first day felt like kindergarten all over again.

All this growing up....I can't take it!!!!
That picture of GG is great. Sleepaway camp, I can't even imagine allowing that. But I bet it's fun for them.

We have a vegan camp in LA area BUT the camp director creeps me out, so it isn't going to happen.

And Shae with a paycheck....my jaw dropped! But good for him. How fun.

TRS/GG has his first real pimple!

He's 10!

I remember having on at 5th grade orientation, it was IN MY NOSE. First one was sure hurty.

I think 10 was my worst year so far. Oh puberty!

Shae shadowed at a high school today, so I guess that's happening. (bummer)

When we were waiting inside the school to pick him up, Silas danced, sang "thrift shop" and told 3 girls how pretty they are & hugged them all. (sickeningly cute)

This growing up thing is a real double edged sword.

I can't believe he is going to be in high school. The pictures you post of him, he just looks like the nicest guy.

And OMG Silas is just the cutest. He just sounds like the most fun kid.

jeebus. 8th grade begins tomorrow. FC bought no-prescription glasses so that this year her look will be completely different. i am remembering myself with nerd glasses at age 13 and can't believe that the time has gone so fast. god willing 8th grade for her is better than 8th grade was for me, what a horror show that was.
