I started doing this again last night! I've tried once before and got up to week 5 or so, then I hurt my ankle and not long after that I moved further away from the gym and sold my membership. This time around Boyfriend is doing it too, and we're running on treadmills in the gym at his office after hours (we work for the same place, but in different locations- my office doesn't have a gym, but I can use his). I really enjoyed it! I found the first few weeks really fun last time too. I'm looking forward to the weather getting less freezing so I can run outside too.

hi! i come in here to see how you guys are coming along and i just want to say, you are all awesome.
keep up the good work!!

and BTW- Baps, i never would have gotten the gumption to actually start C25k if i hadn't been reading your updates from last time round.

Mack, smile and tell that voice to STFU! I remember when i finished the first 20min run or whatever that big bad boy run was on c25k (i was running in the gym on a treadmill by then), i jumped up and down with a big smile on my face, fist pump. so i look like a nut? no biggie, i'm RUNNING!
i smile a lot when i'm running. and in that first 5 min when Douche Brain is telling me, "you know, we could always just turn around, there is still coffee in the pot, your knee feels a bit wonky, etc etc" i remember how good i feel after the run, and ignore le douche.

Aww thank you! that's really nice.

I was amazed at myself for being able to complete it before so I'm looking forward to getting back into it, I actually miss running. Never thought I'd say that.

My back is still sore and I'm wary of making it worse, like I did with my hip, especially as I don't know how I've hurt it. I thought it was just sleeping funny on a hard hotel bed on Saturday, but when that's happened before it's usually gone within a few hours.

I'm going to go to salsa class tonight and see how it feels and if it's bad tomorrow go see the doc.

OMG I just did day 1 of week 4!!! I have no idea how I managed it, two days ago I was really struggling to get through the three minute runs (the longest runs I'd ever attempted!) and now today I can run 4, 6, 4! The only thing I did differently was covering up the times on the machine & my phone & just concentrating on running in time to the music. Last week I made an effort to run faster too & now I'm running at between 7.8 and 8 km/h rather than 7.2-7.5ish.

Mack, that is so wonderful that you were able to shout down MB. (And I'm going to use that abbreviation next time I have one of those conversations in my head, as in, "Shut the fork up, EmmBee.) Love that power that comes to us when we tromp that negativity in ourselves. And that is so cool that your Dad wants to come out for a run with you. I actually got a little misty-eyed thinking of how great it would be to have that kind of support.

Baps, you've completed the entire program before? That is so inspiring; I love that there's a bunch of us here at differing levels and ability and experience. Would you say it's easier or more difficult this time?

And, wow, Jojo you're awesome! You're right -- I found that if I didn't look at my iPhone and just listened for the verbal cues on my app, the running times seemed to go by more quickly; I was focused more on my running and less on "how much longer can I do this?" I have to admit that I'm a bit envious of your speed, however, it does give me encouragement.

Way to go, y'all -- it's so great to hear how you're all doing!

Thank you!! Definitely take encouragement from my speed, I NEVER thought I'd be able to run anywhere near this fast and I have to admit that I probably wouldn't have even tried to push myself to if my husband handn't come to the gym with me a couple of times (after not exercising for over 10 years!) and trampled all over my speeds! On his first day of C25K he was running at around 9km/h and I NEED TO BEAT HIM! Erm, I may be a little competitive!

Yes I was so excited to finish it, I never thought I'd be able to do it. I haven't restarted yet - when my back feels better I'll let you know! :0)

Jojo - YAY! You run faster than me, even when I finished the programme I was only running at 7.5km/h. I used to push it up to 8 or a bit quicker for the last few minutes to push myself but I never managed to run the whole thing at 8.

Damn I really wanna get back to it now. This time though I'll be running it outside, last time I did it all on a treadmill so I will have no idea of speed.

Do it! If you want to get an idea of speed & stuff I think you can get apps that track that stuff...I think Nick has one called Runkeeper.

Has anyone started couch to 5k during hot weather? I don't tolerate heat well at all. Maybe I'll start with walking in the wee hours of the morning, and move up to running when the temperature cools down in a few months.

Bunniee, I run on a treadmill with the fans going and I'm still dripping sweat at the end of the workout. Of course, I'm not terribly fit, so it probably depends on what your fitness level is like. Still, I'd be inclined to walk during the cooler hours and start up when it's not so hot.

Today's run was Week 4, Day 2 and it was two 8-minute segments, divided by a 5-minute walk. It's just a minute longer of running than the last workout, but running for 8 minutes was hard . . . but I did it! I'm thinking, though, I might repeat this week. I'll see how the last run of the week goes.

I've never done couch to 5K but when I started running last year I did it in June or July. My best advice would be to go in the early morning before it gets too bad and to try to find a shady place to run or walk. I had a great trail near a stream that was very shaded and so it was hot but not unbearable. Also, lots of water. You can do it!
I would think this might be a good program in the heat because you'd slowly be building up your run tolerance and getting used to both it and the temperature.

Today's run was W5, D3 and I ran for 20 minutes. I'm amazed that I could do it, especially given that 5 weeks ago completing the 8 one-minute runs was a challenge. Love this C25K -- I'm just over halfway through the program and I've just run for longer than I have in probably the last decade.

Yay well done Fenice. I remember when I did the first 20 minute run, I fistpumped in the gym I was so happy! hahaha

Awesome! How was it?

I did W4 D3 on Saturday and I sucked, I had to skip the last 4 minute run completely! I guess you need to eat more if you, erm, do stuff, before breakfast!!

I re-did that run this morning and it was fine so I'm gonna start week 5 on Wednesday!

Thanks, jojo. Actually W6 D1 was surprisingly easy after that 20 minute run. Managed to increase my speed a little because I was doing the 3 smaller runs.

I have to do W6 D3 and maybe D2 before breakfast -- maybe I'll try to have a quick snack before I do those runs.

Week 5 (at least on my app) is challenging and really really satisfying.

I did day one of week two last night, it was fun! It was warmer in the gym than usual, and this old man came up to the treadmill next to me and turned up the incline as far as it went and started running at 15km/h. So I'm plodding along at 7.5km/h and tearing off as many clothes as are appropriate to shed in the work gym, and he's sprinting next to me in tracksuit pants, a long-sleeved shirt and a jumper. Curse you, old man. But to be fair, if I were that fit at that age I would totally taunt young people with it too.

W6, D3 -- completed and what a slog it was! I had to run before breakfast because I'm donating blood after work and that always leaves me feeling somewhat tired. So I think the lack of breakfast had to do with how slowly I ran -- slowest yet, but it was for 25 minutes, so I'm very pleased about that. I also found out yesterday that I had misunderstood my doctor's recommendation to alter my thyroid meds (I'm hypothyroid). I thought she meant to break my tablet in half, however, she meant to break a tablet in half to add to my regular dosage. So for the past three months, instead of increasing my dosage by 50%, I've actually reduced it by 50%. This could explain why I'm so tired in the evening that I now have a bump on my nose from constantly dropping the iPad on my face because I fall asleep while reading! That just makes running for 25 minutes all the sweeter.

Woop, well done!!

I am restarting this today. My boss says she is running it with me but if she remembers I'll be shocked.

Work got crazy last week and I didn't get to run after the first day, so I'm doing week 2 again this week. And last night it was super fun! I really enjoyed it and actually ran an extra 90 seconds at the end just because I felt like I could.

My knees are kind of sore this morning though. My mum has really bad problems with the cartilage in her knees wearing down (and she's most definitely not a runner) so I'm thinking I should start taking (vegan) glucosamine or something before it gets worse, in case I'm predisposed to what she has. To iHerb!
